Guys : Just got word that classic Warships is sending out it's beautiful Schnellbooten book to all book distributors righ now ! Nearly 160 plus photos and colour besides. check the ship modeller's forum and the post by author Steve Wiper at : www.shipcamouflage.com/ It is about the 8/9th posting down I think and mentions the release of this title and the New Jersey......#'s 15 and 16. This should be one hot book for everyone interested in this boat. And for $ 16.00 US you can;t go wrong ! E
ship icon please..... Guys, well I have the book from www.shipcamouflage.com for $15.00 US. Soft bound book with many pics. 2 page spread of the S-boot from it's early stages till the latter S-700 boots. 6 pages of text which gives an overall viewpoint of the boot and history in it's particpating theaters. Nice bibliography given as several of the books are long out of print. A unique aspect of this book is the several colour photos of boots in Finland during 1941-42, including the S-booten Tenders, the Carl Peters and the Tsingsau. I think the book is worth the monies....... Erich
Can anyone tell me what the price would be in NZ currency?...I'd like that book but don't know the exchange rate...
Check your search engine(s) and type in something like US currentcy-exchange rate- or similar. www.shipcamouflage has the book cheaper than anyone in the states. Now for some other interesting news. Squadron/Signal will compete with this book with their own on the Schnellboote. And from what I have heard they will go into more details with photos on the later war armored S-booten which I am most interested in. E
update..... ***** Squadron/Signal book is still not out yet according to the two authors. It will have more on the late-war armored bridgehead boats. Osprey Vanguard on the S boot is a flop. Just previewed the book and the profiles are small with usage of computer graphics. Very dark scans, and the scanned WW 2 pics are too light. Not worth it.........period ! E
well it is almost 6 months since my last posting about the Squadron/Signal S-boot book.......still no word except to say that one of the co-authors has been in Germany interviewing S-boot veterans and doing some private research..... ~E
Just announced by T. Garth author of the Squadron/Signal S-boot book. Finally it will be released first business day in July ! great ! can't wait..... ~E
of interest to Kriegsmarine history buff's......I hope. concerning the above book coming in July. Erich : TG forwarded your note to me, I've got the final proof copy of the Squadron book here in front of me, and it looks pretty good. Some errors slipped in courtesty of the Editors unfortunate need to monkey around with everything (this is typical !), however, the basic book will be a leap ahead of any other visual guide and well-worth the asking price. It's just the technical aspects, but very detailed down to the radar and radar dtection gear, which hasn't been seen in print before. There's also a full page diagram of the S-38b class, also not seen in print before, and other interesting "new" details. The squadron editiors suggested I start work on volume 2, which will be a history of the Flotilla's (yeah!), supported by pics and diagrams in the usual Squadron format. hey Stevin how about some Nachtjagdschiffe Togo as a support ship for this ?......well maybe not.... If I decide to go ahead with this, there will be a photo and short bio on each of the S-boot winners.....I'd be happy to have your assistance in that case ( ok guys get busy and send in the info to me ) I've some pics left over from the first manuscript, will be hunting down for more to get to the "critical mass" needed to get Vol. 2 written and submitted. If I recall U have some autographed pics which would be ideal to have as scans.......will let U know if/when the time comes. cheers and good to hear from you ! DK well guys all I can say is once a book translated into English from the Deutsch, cvoering the S-boots and personell is published it is usually within one year and the book(s) are sold out. Would love to see the two authors carry this through with a good multi volume set in English covering the S-boot arm at length and I hope our forum members stand behind me on this..... ~E
Glad to hear its finally out and I am interested. I'lll have to wait a few weeks till I complete my book deals with Detlev and Andre--just in case i HAVE to get more than 2 books. Ouch!!
Just got word this AM on the book I am getting. Tis definately mine and it is coming fairly cheaply by Airmail. I should have it in a week or less. I'm about as happy as you can get Hi Erich: The book thankfully, is only one volume. BUT--unfortunately--the PLM book is actually a 3 volume set and at I think 50E or 70 Euro each--I have to put those off till I have my tax refund in and if he still has them. I wouldn't mind having these three books but--at a book cost of 150-210 Euro--not including shipping--I can't see ordering them just yet--and being in the position i'm currently in--they'll have to wait. But--at any rate--the KC book is mine )
good show Carl ! unfortunate but true and others on thse forums can attest. For good reference materials you have to pay the price......arg ! ~E
Here's the latest.....sometime in July ! I am personally looking forward to this and the upcoming second volume... ! Torpedos los ! Altenwolf
Erich, Saw the new 'Histoire & Collections' S-Boote title in London again yesterday - asking price is 25 pounds....
I feel a bithday gift, self-given is coming on for August ! Stevin you said several times....."you can never have enough books" eh ? ~E der Altenwolf
Thanks Mate ! yes first week of August I hit the big 50 ! yee gads.....never thought I'd make it... yep think I'm going to pick up the German version of Fast attack boats by Harold Fock. The book covers the technical aspects of all S-booten from 1914 till 1945. Not a op history as just the whole gammit of boats and their personal apsects through line drawings, etc....... ~E der Altenwolf
The book has appeared before me and in my hot little hands. Go get this now ! from squadron/signal publications, warships # 18. worth every penny and then some. We are now working on the pictorial; second volume covering ops and KC and some DK biographies right now with some very Kühl surprises in store..... ah hoy mates ! ~E
