Touchstone Pictures is filming a new movie about the Alamo. It will star Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Patrick and Mexican film star Emilio Echevarria. They are filming the Battle of San Jacinto in Bastrop Texas. They did not say when the film will be released or what really happend to Davy C. I guess they will have something about it if Touchstone has a web site. If I had know about it sooner I would have told you as you could have gotton a job as an extra in the Mexican Army. Although in the Bastrop paper it did say the extras were having a tough time of it in the uniforms out in the Texas heat. Dark blue coats with long sleeves and high buttoned collier !!!!!!
Since Carl is a Field Marshall here, most likely, the producers of the film have heard about this, and would cast him as General Santa Ana himself! Carl, a new career in films awaits you! Bill
Thanks guys but--could you imagine me trying to climb over the Alamo's wall? Or would I be used in a scene in which a wall was breachen by Cannon-fire and I charged through with the others. If you want to imagine what i'd look like in a Mexican Army uniform--just think of the Xorro TV series. Though i'm not that bad but--I would more resemble the Mexican Sergeant--Gomez? wasn't it?
On and BTW--i'm wondering if this was The Alamo project that lil Opie Taylor, slightly bigger Richie Cunningham/Ron Howard, dropped out of directing for some hollywood reason? The cast sounds OK except for billy bob thornton--yuk. Also--as a person to play General Sam Houston--I think Jon Voight would have been perfect for the role. So far Richard Boone is my Fav Houston. Patrick Duffy was OK os Houston but--could have been better. I wonder if billy bob is going to play the part of William Barret Travis? because I cannot see him in the roles of either Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. I thought the David Keith did a very convincing Bowie in James Mitchners: Texas but my favorite portrayal of Jim Bowie was by Richard Widmark. Now my fav Davy Crockett was done by Fess Parker--with of course John Wayne as a VERY close second. My Fav Travis of course was played by Lawrence Harvey. [ 06. By the way, Carl, the DVD already arrived! Thanks a lot!!! Now, I'll have to send you the series in DVD of all Pedro Armendáriz's films as Pancho Villa...
Thanks for letting me know and i'd like to see P.A as pancho villa. You know--now that it's mentioned--he DOES look like pancho villa!
Hi Ryan--there are several different stories on how Davy Crockett met his end at The Alamo. One story said that he was one of the last to die. He supposedlu had climed onto one of the ramps leading to a cannon emplacement on one of the walls--I think the north wall--but i'm not certain. Anyway, it was said that he fell after killing as many as 15 Mexican soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. Another story is that he had been seriously wounded, was too weak to resist, and was executed with 6 other Alamo defenders. Being the Frontiersman, backwoods hunter, soldier and politician that he was--I find that this story was an insult as having ever been invented. Another story was written by a Mexican Army Colonel. He wrote sort of a "diary or several page document" before he died from some disease that he had for several months and never got better from and was delerious much of the time. In his version--Davy Crockett had surrendered with several other Texicans--and as per General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's orders--put them all to the sword and their bodies were burned and ashes collected and scattered to the winds. Anyway, this version of what happened--was a documentation that for several years--was thought to be true and only recently by Forensic Science--was proved to be a falsification. This documentation was not in this Mexican Colonels handwriting ((Therefore can only have credance of being hear-say and not fully valid as being from this Colonel. [[This means any jack and joe could have written this story.]] About 15 or so years ago--these long thought lost and or forgotten papers--were "discovered" in a well-known antique dealers shop I think in Mexico City or some major Mexican City. This dealer then made mucho $$$$ off the sale of these documents. These documents are either now in possession of the University of Texas--in Austin or on loan there. This document has been proved to have been written by no less than four other people. The best I can say on Davy Crockett--is that there is no proof that Davy Crockett--did not die a hero. Davy Crockett did his duty the way he saw best--and died with some 182-187 other Texicans at The Alamo. I think it's safe to say he died a hero--as well as all the other defenders. The Mexican soldiers involved in the actual fighting have to also be looked on as heros as well.
Heroes all, Carl. About the diary, tho'. A bit like the 'Hitler diaries' a few years ago. Some jerk trying to con the world. (and failing ) [ 09. June 2003, 06:32 PM: Message edited by: KmPok ]
Hi Carl; Go to http://touchstonepictures.go.com/main.html and in the lower left area there is a movie news menu and then you can scroll until you get to The Alamo. Not much information so far. There is also a place where you can leave your e-mail address for movie updates. Steve
Hi Steve thanks for the link but--the darn thing blocks me out as soon as I get there. I get this copy error message than never clears up. I think I do know a site I can go to to find out more on this movie.
