So, I sold the wife on the idea of heading off to France this weekend to pick up some cheap booze and smokes. Now by pure coincidence we're going to Dunkerque, and I just happen to be reading a book on Operation Dynamo (I know, what are the chances of that happening )She'll be so surprised (Not!) Can anyone recommend 'must see' sites, or know of a good guide book to pick up? Many thanks in advance for any and all replies and recommendations Cheers Trench
Lucky old you! Welcome aboard Trenchie! I cant offer much help but do they do a 'Dunkirk' book in the battleground series? I really must get to Dunkirk as my Grandfather was evacuated from there...
Hi Baron Battleground Europe, why didn't I think of that! Many thanks for the info and also the welcome. I did post a 'hello' on the newbs thread so as to avoid being up on a charge on day 1 This looks like a grand place to waste afternoons at work LOL!
Tell me about it .... [/QB][/QUOTE] Oh yeah! welcome on board trenchfoot, there are a lot of us newbies, don't be intimidated by these vets and all their flashy medals, like yourself I have a lot to learn about WW11 and this site is great for that! Welcome on board.
Thanks Maverick, Now more advice.... how do I tell the Wife "well just fancy that, we're right where the evacuation took place" and keep my knackers? LOL
Geez guys, is it that bad - I'm getting married soon We're going to Italy - do you think I can get her to see Monte Cassino?
A very warm ( forgive the pun - humidity feels like 99% in London today ) welcome to the Forums, Trenchfoot ! Being an avid battlefield walker myself, I can highly recommend a visit to the Battlefields of WWII website ; - http://battlefieldsww2.50megs.com/ This excellent site is run by Paul Reed, better known to us here on the Forums as 'Sommecourt'. You may have to persevere a bit to find Dunkirk info ; it's never been as popular a destination as, say, Normandy or Arnhem.
