And here I was thinking something like a M2 or MG-42 LOL. Merciful Heavens! What is this nation coming to? We can't even trust the police to keep such destructive and dangerous weapons from falling into unknown and dangerous hands. There oughta be a law! Hell, it was probably stolen by some police brass hat when he retired and now resides in his dusty old gun cabinet. This story is about as worrisome as somebody stealing a Red Ryder BB gun from a museum! If I remember ccrrectly, about four or five years ago, it was revealed that several H&K MP5's were missing from the FBI's inventory. As far as I know they were never located. If they were ever used in any crimes, the FBI has never admitted it. BTW, this article just goes to show the average newspaper journalist couldn't tell a machine gun from elephant poop.
Back in the early 1990s my USMC reserve unit shared a cluster of buildings with a couple of US Army reserve units. Post Desert Storm the Army IG decended upon one of the hapless ArRes companys. Almost imeadiatly they found a M1911 45 cal automatic pistol missing from the armory. Fore long one of the inspectors came thru the seldom used double doors to our side of the building and politely asked to look in our armory for said pistol. We graciously opened up and let him poke about til satisfied. In the post look chat the Army Captain divulged that: A. the missing pistol had not been documented as present for nearly four years. B. The Army Reserve armorer responsible claimed he had loaned the pistol to the Marines. C. About every other piece of paperwork in the company was failing inspection. The pistol was never found and within 48 hours the bulk of the company staff, Reserve & Active, were not to be found either.
