If you look closer you see it's actually four buildings. It was noticed not too long after it was built 40 years ago but without Google Earth and such it wasn't much of an issue. The USN is going to spend around 600,000 dollars to relandscape and change the orientation since it has become an issue.

    Swastika

There was a similar ' ' in Germany a short time ago, it was found that trees in a forest formed a swastika of 'copper beech' I believe, set by Hitler Youth in the thirties and not noticed until seen from above.

I saw that forest on the news Merlin.
Apart from the chosen symbol I actually admidered that trick.
By planting a lot of slightly different pine trees (utterly identical but slightly more bluish) nobody walking amongst them would even notice these trees being different.
Only when they are fully grown and seen from above did the hidden image reveal itself.
I wonder how they removed the image though, maybe they cut down all the offending trees? :p

recently in belgium, a fountain is Swastika-form.
One day later the works were already started to change the form.
I wonder, what if it showed the hamer symbol of the Communists? Would that be offending?

As for the trees, yes cutt them down and put salt in the ground so nothing can grow in the next thousand years. That should solve the image problem :D

Turn it into a walking path. That way, you combine history with a day in the woods :D
