I got these in a mail, maybe you guys have already seen them?
more. I ran out of my quota, will have to link the last ones.
Otto, can I delete some previous attachments to free up some space?
I don't know how.
These are all available from the US Navy Historical Center site.
Was what you received one of those silly emails claiming that some guy on a minesweeper took these and that they've been stored away unseen all these years?
I get about one of those a month "OMG! Look what a friend sent me!!!"
All standard USN and USA photos, including some they captured from the Japanese at the end of the war, that have been in the public domain for 50 years; certainly not rotting away in some Brownie camera.
Yeah.......feel like a dope now. First time I got one of "those" emails.............yep, from a brownie camera too. LOL
Might want to look at
http://www.de220.com/Pearl Harbor/Pearl Harbor.htm
too. It has all the National Archives numbers for the photos
Here are some I found that are Part of the US public domain
I have a great book of WWII pics which I could link if anyone wants.
I've seen the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" and knew the Japanese damaged lots of ships but I didn't know they were that bad.
When the bomb hit Arizona it bored through the decks and into the powder and ammo magazines. There were over 1,000 1,800 pound 14" shells and enough powder to blow them all over 20 miles. All this went off in seconds, but was contained, partly, by the armored hull. The forward crews' quarters were directly over the magazines.
