Good morning all, A complete novice I'm afraid but here goes... I bought a book on WW2 at the weekend from a charity shop and inside was the following photograph; Photo by Mark I would love to know as much as possible i.e. where, the regiment, date and the chap in the middle in black? Your expert help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks.
It is link to Photobucket and Photobucket is undergoing huge changes and it is hard to navigate now.You may have to have an account. it is a photo of British soldiers in dress uniforms , appears WW1 or 2 but all I( know.
Hi There, I do have an account with Photobucket. I'm a bit of a novice therefore would you suggest another means of making this photograph viewable? I couldn't upload on here as it says the file was too big? Many thanks.
sorry, I cannot get it to open either but I am a Luddite with such. Did get image transferred to Picasa which is ancient and dying !!!. Will try google pictures
I can see it on my IPad, no problem. Unfortunately, I don't know anything helpful about the photo. The center guy in black sure looks creepy!
Over on j-aircraft there have been some pretty angry posts about photobuckets new policies. I don't know the details but even the titles of the threads (given by one of the admins) are pretty harsh and from the sounds of it not unreasonably so. See: PHOTOBUCKET Policy & Image Posting By Its Members Held For Ransom! In the mean time there's always Opana's advice above.
Now I can see it. Maybe these guys are MP's and the man in black is condemned to be executed? Just a guess.
Hope Porkchop doesn't mind, but given the ongoing Photobucket Cluster-F, I screen grabbed the picture. It is odd. looks like a prisoner. Spandau?
The white cap band & all that bullshit makes me think Coldstream Guards squad , interwar. No medal ribbons on the Sergeant so well after WW1.
Maybe the PTI ? Few Guards squad pics I've seen on GoogleImages have chap in a ''dennis the menace'' style jumper.
Think your on the right tact, Owen. The white slings and " all that bullshit" remind me of an honor guard outfit. The guy in front is of some importance being seated front center. Not shackled so probably not a prisoner but definitely a weird looking fellow
They are wearing parade gear with white accessoiries and spotless parade sword, so my opinion is it is a special occasion for the group and the chap in the middle is part of it. He might look a bit stiff, but he seems proud.
He could have been a prisoner of some importance/fame but not a violent one. The cuffs on the pants suggest generic, or issue, clothing. Slight resemblance. Distance has flattened his features if so.
