Pomona veteran to receive Legion of Honor for his efforts in liberating France in World War II - DailyBulletin.com

Leroy Amos will slip into his U.S. Army uniform today and head off to San Pedro with members of his family for a ceremony honoring his military service during World War II.

Amos, 91, of Pomona will be one of two men who will be awarded the National Order of The Legion of Honor, the the highest award the French government presents to its citizens and foreign nationals. The award will be presented in an afternoon ceremony that will take place aboard the SS Lane Victory, a reconditioned transport ship.

The award will be granted in recognition of his distinguished military service with the 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th U.S. Infantry Division. Amos and his fellow soldiers fought German forces in the Vosges Mountains region of northern France and played a role in the liberation of many French cities, small towns and villages, according to a statement from the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles.
