My grandfather's unit lists one unit; "A" Battery, 997th FA BN. It was part of the V Corp. Does this mean he was in this unit for the duration of his service or is it the most recent unit? Rob
I am trying to figure out when he actually joined and left the Artillery BN. I have been in contact with a few surviving members of the 997th and their families. So far no one has remembered anything about my grandfather...it has been a few years....memory going. I really hope to find some more records but realize it is a longshot. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to look for more details about the 8" How units?
No, the 997th would be only the last unit he served with. This is usually the only one to appear on discharge papers. There is a seperate page in the service record that lists chronologically all assignments of a service member. What details about 8" howitzer units were you interested in?
There is another series of posts I started titled something like "trying to find my Grandfather's Unit" on down the list. It has most of the information that I have so far.
