From the Herald Mail, Hagerstown MD Obituaries: Robert S. Flowers, 84 Robert S. Flowers, 84 SEPT. 20, 1924-JAN. 22, 2009 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Robert S. Flowers, 84, of Ridgeley Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in McKeesport, Pa. on Sept. 20, 1924, to the late Edmund and Ivy Gossage Flowers. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Occupation Forces in Japan immediately following World War II. A member of Toastmasters for a number of years, he greatly enjoyed square dancing, and participated in it often with various groups. He was a loving father, grandfather and husband, and a Methodist by faith. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science Degree in Physics from West Virginia University. Robert ran the State Electronics Co., a wholesale electronic parts business, for 53 years. He inherited "Flower's Radio and Television" from his father, and updated and expanded it greatly over the years. He owned and operated stores in Fairmont, Morgantown, Westover on Dunkard Avenue, Hagerstown, Md., which continue to operate, and previously in Uniontown, Pa. In 1982, he successfully represented himself before the West Virginia Supreme Court. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Flowers; his children, David Flowers of Berkeley County, W.Va., Suzy Pritchard of Tokyo, Japan, Jennifer Stathakis of Morgantown and Edward Flowers of Newport News, Va.; and his sister, Elinore Marang of Erie, Pa. He is also survived by nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Flowers; his brothers, George, Ralph and Russell Flowers; a foster sister, Jeannie Huggins; and an infant daughter. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Miller officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
