Russia to defend truth about Soviet Union’s decisive role in WWII

[IMG][IMG]MOSCOW, February 21 (Itar-Tass) -- President Dmitry Medvedev said Russia would defend the truth about the decisive role of the former Soviet Union in World War II.
He said the 65th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany would be celebrated in 2010. “It is our main and sacred duty to take care of war and labour veterans who give a proper example to a new young generation of our citizens,” Medvedev said at a reception marking Fatherland defender’s Day traditionally celebrated in Russia February 23.
The president is confident that it is the duty of Russian people “to safeguard and defend the memory of the Great Patriotic War, resist attempts to distort it, and defend the truth about the decisive contribution of our country to the defeat of fascism and the victorious end of World War II”.
Medvedev congratulated WWII veterans on the upcoming holiday and called them “a truly outstanding generation that defended their native land and freedom”.
