I do not know if this belongs here but I think it could qualify under an atrocity. Anyways the Russians in WWII used to train dogs to be a weapon. From the time the dogs were born they would feed them underneath a tank. As in teh food would be placed under a tank for the dogs. After a while the dogs got used to this and knew that food would be under a tank or other type of vehicle. Eventually the Russians would attack an explosive device on the dogs backs that would be triggered when a lever was pushed back. They would then sned the dogs off towards German tanks and etc. When the dogs would go under the tanks expecting food the lever would be pushed back and the dog would explode. It got so bad for the Germans that they took up the practice of shooting any animal that they saw near them.
Wow talk about cruelty to animals taken to an extreme, but at the same time it got the job done without a loss of human lives. Isnt war a dirty business?
I just had to google that little fact there, and I found out apparently these little kanine kamikazes took out around 300 nazi tanks in the war :dada:
yea Vet they were very effective , but can we imagine our pet being used for that? I would have a hard time with that one but then again in war desperate acts sometimes were used.
I never had heard of this before, no wonder they always show german soldiers in films and stuff shooting at any dogs or other animals that come towards them, there afraid!:nade:
Wow, I can't believe this is true! i: Absolutely horrible to do to an animal, when they know no better and are just looking for food, nor did they do anything wrong. You do not see the suicide bombers doing this in Iraq these days, what they do is unjustifiable by any means, but at least they do not force it on a defenseless animal.
I had heard of this before (read it in some article a while back and always remembered it because it was so strange) but one part that wasn't mentioned was that apparently many of these Russian-trained dogs would remember the Soviet tanks instead of the German ones and occasionally would run back under their own 'friendly' tanks. I remember this being the focus of the article but not much else.
In all my reading I have never read about this before. Thanks for sharing that. I really feel so terrible for animals being used this way. This war was just so bad when it came to cruelty all around.
