As some may know, the Willow Run bomber plant outside Detroit is being razed right now. It's not too late to save it! Ford Motor Company erected Willow Run during WWII in an attempt to build the Air Corps' biggest, fastest, most destructive bomber at the time (the B-24) at a rate of one per hour. It was the world's largest factory under one roof. The Wall Street Journal called Willow Run "the production miracle of the war" in 1942. Charles Lindbergh, who worked at Willow Run, called it “a Grand Canyon of the mechanized world.” The factory plays a major role in my book The Arsenal of Democracy (Houghton Mifflin, coming out June 3). After four years of research, I can say: This is a hugely important historical landmark. Because of Willow Run, the B-24 is still today the most mass-produced American military aircraft of all time. Support the effort to turn a piece of Willow Run into an incredible WWII museum at savethebomberplant.org, a site run by the Yankee Air Museum. Thank you for reading!
