Caught this link from Yahoo: Whale kills Fla. SeaWorld trainer as guests watch - Yahoo! News Terrible tragedy but, um...it's kinda in the name of the animal what the package you are getting consists of. I am not surprised by this, just like I wasn't surprised when that lunatic Steve Irwin was killed.
Sad...the trainers are usually people very devoted to the animals and its sad when they lose their life, but as you say - despite them being in captivity they are not domesticated animals and will respond with their instincts.
That is vey true. Even thugh it's trained, it may still attack. Just look at what happened in Honolulu in 1994:Herald-Journal - Google News Archive Search
Thanks for merging them Lou, I was looking around to do the same but you beat me to it! I read the article Ray is pointing out as well, and it appears that the Orca grabbed her pony-tail and took her down to drown. I wonder if the animal mistook/thought it was just playing with a "toy/friend" and didn't have malicious intent really. Just a thought. Here is a link to the "pony tail" part: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100225/ap_on_re_us/us_seaworld_death_46
Apparantly it has been involved in 3 deaths so far....Killer whale...It says so on the can. I've been there though...Great show..Liked pirate sea lions better..and loved the antarctic section of the park.
Agreed, animals have personalities just like people. Some will adapt to captive living while others won't.
