It was a five minute ban, just to remind them who has the keys.

No worries. You wouldn't want to be on that forum anyway. It's for "work". My work.

I rather like using smileys and icons.

When I get around to writing material for the forum, I use smileys and symbols to highlight the piece(s).

    Keep the icons!

I'm just glad you've stopped using the colours, VB. Made my eyes hurt they did.

Nice smileys here, Peppy's 'same size as the text' ethos should be a web-wide standard.
I basically don't really like smileys, but as so much of the meaning can be lost in non-verbal non-face-to-face conversation, they have their place in replacing some of that potentially lost stuff.
I appreciate that human literary efforts have got along just fine without 'em for a fair while, but we sort of shoot from the hip in Internet comms so the odd silly yellow face can be a useful shorthand. More elegant than, eg., squillions of exclamation marks or similar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying hard to be offended by LRusso's undulating fire pokers but humor is winning. After Clem's comments, I now am jealous I don't know how to use them emoticons with the "like" -----------------and by the way, did you know Clementine's avatar is the real "her"? Now one day I found that out and think she is an absolute perfect model of the 1940's female in uniform----she could have been used to promote the ladies into the military had she not been too young for that!

Personally I like 'smileys' - I'm always mindful that a humorous comment can be misinterpreted, especially among a multinational forum membership. A smiley can reinforce that maybe a comment shouldn't be taken literally, or is meant to cause offense.

    ( Eg ; I might hypothetically say :

'That's typical of the French - all they think about is sex, food and wine'
    ;)

And hope that Skipper's anger will be reduced by the ;).....

    ( Er, OK - Skipper ? Hello ? Hello....................? )

    ;);););)

Ouch that hurts , "Perfidious Albion, shoot first Messieurs les anglais!" Regarding sex, food and wine you almost got it straight, it's wine before the food :D

Good to see your humor is more subltle than your food. :p
