For the research I'm doing on my adopted grave of Raymon L. Miller of the 327th GIR 101st Airborne Division I noticed he was rewarded a Silver Star, since he was KIA in Market Garden, I presume he was awarded it for actions in or around D-Day. Can anyone help / does anyone know how I can figure out why the silver star was rewarded ? Thanks !
Hi Cas, The Army index for the Silver Star Medal http://www.homeofheroes.com/members/04_SS/2_WWII/indexes/army/Army-Me.html Shows he received the Silver Star per 101st Airborne Division General Order No.15 Miller, Raymond L. HQ, 101st Airborne Division, G.O. No. 15 (1944) Now we need to find out what the 101st GO 15 reads. Hopefully someone has a listing of GO's for the 101st AD--otherwise you may have to write to NARA. The number is pretty low for 1944 so I'm guessing its a GO during Normandy.
Thanks Dave ! Posted the question on a Dutch speaking forum in the hope anyone knows something about it. Is it wise to contact the 101st Assotation and see if they got more info ? I'll mail the family and see if they got more info, ther should be a photo where general Eisenhower decorates T/4 Raymond L Miller.
Just an update, mailed the family at the end of december but heard nothing back yet... Mailed the 101st and 327 GIR ass. they transferd my request to a historian but also heard nothing.....
So, after mailting to the niece of Raymond L. Miller and causing almost a marriage crisis, I've got the details on the silver star and on top of that a photo were Raymond L Miller is being decorated by Ike himself ! Enjoy
