@Skipper: Bordeaux Kriegsmarine Hospital? As you must know, I investigating the matters of the U-617 and his crew. We know that one man of the crew, comes to the hospital in Bordeaux, because it is very ill. Later he died in Germany. Do anyone says me about this hospital, where is located, his name.....? It is the site where is attended the personal of the Kriegsmarine. One of my friends, Joan, suggest me that is named "St. Andrè" Thanks in advance. Jan.
From what I recall the U-boat base had it's own medical facilities as part of the underground base. If their injuries couldn't be dealt with there they'd be shipped back to Germany for treatment, the latter being quite common for all German forces.
Saint André Hospital was used by German troops , I don't think it was the only one though, nor if it was the only used by the Km. Saint André is a 14th century hospital and the oldest in town and near the Gironde too.
Thanks, Skipper for your help! Seems that is depicted in his website: Groupe hospitalier Saint-André: CHU Bordeaux : Hopitaux Jan.
That is correct. It is right down town and is both a modern unit in an historical building with its original French gardens.
