Now that we are talking about social security. Some-one told me that a veteran may have more coming on his check if he told them he was a veteran. It was some thing social security and veterans. years in service. I asked a veterasn counselor and he said there was some thing like that but social security would have taken care of that, but it was only a few dollars. It seems like it was some veterans law that if you did not ask you didn't get it. This sounds kind of vague but I don't understand it. Art
Hi Art--how about this crazy one? An ex-coworker of mine and I got to talking the other day in a parking lot. He is a bit handicapped--but I think its mainly a brain handicap thing--and im not making fun of any handicapped people--especially also since I am considered handicapped. Anyway, he has come up with a new angle on mikling the system for double the money. The reason I say milking the system is because he is doing just that. He's no more handicapped than Arnold Schwarzenegger is. This person is getting Army retirement, State retirement (due to a legit accident I know he had there) and now he is drawing $900.00+++ from Social Security. Now--with State and Fed retirement coming in--he is already getting over $4,000.00 a month--pays no bills--lives with his parents. He also only pays for the food he buys when going through a McDonalds or a place like that. Anyway, his new angle to get more Social Security money--which would be almost exactly double what he gets from them now is--to claim that he is an American Indian. All you have to do is show proof that you have Indian blood in your system--and all you need is I think 10%. Then you refile your claim as an American Indian, you cannot be denied because of the Indian blood in your body. I have Cherokee Indian blood in my veins--but the only reason I see for claiming it if I were getting SS checks--was for greed. Now if a vet can get more by claiming he is a vet--I fully agree with that. [ 23. September 2003, 01:02 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
Carl, your Cherokee blood will not get you as far as you think ! My wife is at least over 1/4 Cherokee so we looked into getting funds from the huge acquired 'saved' account for the kids for their college funds. We were not trying to take the "system" as this was very legal. We were given addys and phone numbers of 'full-bloods' and contacted them with all old records we could muster. Never received one notification whether we were on board or not........bizarre ! ~E
The veteran counsaler said it had something to do about veterans did not pay social security while in the service but government paid there part, so the veteranreceived that starting on their 1st social security check Art
Hi Erich--I don't blame your wife for trying. The only thing I have against getting extra money is because of this one person who will never lack having more than enough money to live more than VERY comfortably--and this person is bilking the system. For someone having no bills to pay and maybe spending $100 or so going through drive-throus per month--out of his $4,000+++ paychecks--and for him to want double the SS he is getting really makes me sick. Me--i'm working parttime and making about $800.00 a month with over $600 going for bills--and is not including groceries, car repairs, gasoline, and what I spend on militaria or DVDs. I'm basically left with a scarce $50.00 a week--and out of that--I still have to pay car insurance too. The ex-coworker bozo I'm talking about ha only his strip bar expenses he has to pay and he is currently buying a new van and some other kind of new car. Now whay is it that even out of say $4,900 he gets a month--no taxes taken out either--I bet because of the two new vehicles--maybe just maybe he spends $900.00. Add the above mentioned drive throu amount of $100.00 thats only $1,000. Having no bills gives him some $3,900.00 to waste on drinking at bars getting topless dances, and whatever else he manages to spend money on. I would be living better than British Royalty--on that sum of money. I would also be bored stiff at not going anywhere either. Now--granted--he does go to Europe about every 3 months--for 1 month at a time. So I guess he does have some activity. Yes--I think he definately is owed his Army retirement pay as well as his state pay, but--I don't think he should be allowed to get SS pay. He is only 44? I believe. Maybe I should go to SS and use disabilities in order to double my pay? What not? this guy is. I tell you one thing--my life would be easier to have $1,600 to $1,800 coming in per month with only half being taxable. I'd have a new car and computer in no time at all. Also I would be debt free from Credit Cards. Here I am, working a parttimer and driving a car with expensive repairs to be made, and not being able to live in luxury like George does, but, i'm not complaining and im not bilking any system either. I do think that your wife should be eligable for monotary help--I know you and sorta know your situation and I know you would not waste the money given either. Get this, I have to drive by welfare and hud housing on my route back home daily. It really irritates me to no end to see a 40 ince bigscreen TV being delivered to someones apartment--who is not working buy recieving all kinds of govt help. Me--I have a simple 13 inch TV--nothing special either--but it does the job I want it for. I bought my set for about $86 and change--not almost $4,000. Had I had $4,000 now--I would be completely debt free and would have enough to repair anything on my car that needs it. I'd be good to go for a few more years--vehicle wise. At any rate--I hope your wife can get some assistance.
