Does anyone knw what this patch means or signifys? I am meeting with my family tommorow and am trying to give them as miuch information that I can gather until then. THanks in advance... sorry to bother you all... David Keckan (Granson Of MSGT Walter Neton)
its called the Ruptured duck it was an honorable discharge patch also given as a Pin to vets at the time of theyre discharge
"The Origin of "The Ruptured Duck" Insignia The original Ruptured Duck was a cloth insignia depicting an eagle inside a wreath. It was worn on uniforms above the right breast pocket by WWII servicemen and women. It was issued to service personnel who were about to leave the military with an Honorable Discharge. It also allowed them to continue to wear their uniform for up to thirty days after they were discharged since there was a clothing shortage at that time. This showed the MP's that they were in transit and not AWOL." What Is "The Ruptured Duck?
Is it consididered a "bad thing" if someone was given that? I know you said honroable but was it something soilders regretted getting? I am sorry I am new to world war II histroy and am learning everyday. Thanks for your. David Keckan
No it wasn't bad at all. It meant that you were out and that it was an "Honorable Discharge". I think quite a few were happy to get it . It meant that thier time in service for the War was over and that they could still wear thier uniforms for 30 days after they got thier Discharge papers.
Thanks for your help. I am printing out all the informaiton I can get so I can show all my family what I put together. All the help you all have been giving em is truley helpful. God Bless David Keckan
