the thin red line....are you serious!

Well as you can tell by my header I am not a fan of this movie. Although many people i know (some i even respect) loved it. Now normaly i have educated tastes in movies (die a slow death adam sandler) but i really hated this film. Everybodys going into shell shock and crying without even seeing the enemy. Am I alone? Can I get an Amen? Something? Anyone?

The book was much better.

 

Can't say that I 'hated' it, but I do consider the film to be a failure. I think that the director was aiming for something on a higher plane than 'SPR' but somehow it just didn't work.

I saw it at one of London's largest cinemas the week it was released and, apart from the attack on the hilltop bunker, I can recall hardly any of it to mind. No real narrative and the only character to make an impression on me was the main one who I found just plain irritating.

To me, it was a missed opportunity.....

 

I echo your opinion of this movie. Also, I hated the original TRL. At least the original TRL, had some good actors in it.

 

I have not see this one but it did not attract me enough to see it.

 

Though I did chuckle upon seeing Woody blow his ass off with the grenades.......

This movie was so weak that, it's like saying that drinking a cup of hot water, is like drinking a cup of Folgers Coffee.

 

Well it is sad i'll never get those two hours back.

 

Atleast in the movie "Memphis Belle" put effort into there characters and conflicts.

 

Looks like I'm the "Lone Ranger" on this one. I can't say I really liked it, but I didn't mind it. I would not recommend it, or rate it above any other film except Anzio.
Second from the bottom is a good place for it.
If you read about Biak, the similarities are numerous. Outnumbered, out of water, attacking up hill through tall grasses, against an entrenched enemy, with little/no artillery/tank support.
People with an impossible job getting blamed for not being "motivated" enough. End up being removed only to have the replacement needing the same things the other asked for to succeed. All so a distant and almost absent Brass can get another feather in his cap.
Shaun Penn, John Travolta, and George Clooney all give me gas. Nick Nolte...just Hick-ups.
I guess I just like anything about the PTO, since it rarely gets mentioned (since the John Wayne films), as being part of the war.

 

You can't really place "Anzio" with this film because it's Italian made, produced, directed etc. However, it had several great actors in it including: Robert Mitchum, Earl Holliman, Peter Falk and Arthur Kennedy. I can't remember if Robert Ryan was in this movie as well? I THINK he was and possibly in the role of Mark Clark?

 

This movie was so horrible that I had to see 'The Sands of Iwo Jima' back to back just to get myself to go to work.

A tip for movie directors. If you want to be clever...find a cure for cancer.
If you have a good story, then normal IS enough.

A good example is the latest Bond movie, where the ULTRA gadgetry is toned down, and skill is played up.

 

Greeting Jaeger. I hope that you REALLY do like Sands of Iwo Jima ;-)) If not, it matters not and believe it or not, I did the same thing you did. After I got back home from the theater, I popped in a John Wayne war movie-just to help rid my memory of watching TRL.

Overacted by Over Actors !

 

Ryan was in 'Anzio' as the General character ( this was a movie where all names were changed to protect the innocent ). The US soldiers carried Lee Enfield rifles and the movie had probably the worst-ever theme song.

But for some masochistic reason I ejoy watching it now and again.....
