Has anyone here seen this movie?

I have seen a it a few times quite some time ago, but not for a while. I don't think it's available on DVD. It is a really great movie.

It was made in the early '60s (if I remember correctly) and was definately not the "Hollywood" type movie, with glorious marching music for a score, and unbridled heroism.

It's one of those movies that you go away from in a pretty melancholy mood.

Someone sent me a copy of it on VHS once, but it was a horrible copy and totally unwatchable.

I've seen The Victors. It is a remarkable film ... the Christmas execution of the deserter ... the wounded GI taken in from the rain by the kindly British family ... the puppy shot over a bet ... the French platoon that took no prisoners ... the knife fight to the death between allies after the war ... an extraordinary, unforgettable film

    Yes, Indeed.

The one about the dog is the one I remember most.
Troop was told not to take on pets. Does it anyway. Feels bad when he has to leave the dog. (here's where I thought it wood get "hollywoodish") Guys say "go on fella, call you dog." Big grin. Until the gunshots start...
Man, talk about a bleak feeling after seeing that...
I wish it would come out on DVD.
