Hi All-- I have another ribbon I need identified (I used to think I was pretty good at this but now I'm not so sure...). The attached is a ribbon awarded to a 513th PIR trooper who was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge (the battle for Dead Man's Ridge, more specifically, outside Flamierge, Belgium along the Bastogne/Marche highway). His wounds left him unable to continue with his unit, and after several hospital stays both in Europe and here in the US, he was discharged from service in early 1946. The pic isn't great; my apologies for that. There is a yellow stripe in the middle, then red white and blue ones radiating out from center from there. The only thing this vet still has is his ribbon bar, which has an example of this ribbon in between his Good Conduct Medal and his EAME Campaign ribbon. Since he was only in combat for four days, the ribbon had to have come from his training period or that brief period of combat (it's not a US award for valor, I know that). I'm confused in re its placement in the order of precedence, but I suppose that may have been an error at the time. Any ideas? I've seen it once before but I can't place it, and searching for these by color is impossible. Thanks, Adam
Veterans of Foreign Wars(VFW) medal http://www.militaryitems.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=268_597_393&products_id=27763&zenid=ca8b71d4edb35d42e8055fb2d9253296 AFAIK, it was only authorized for wear during meetings, conventions, parades, or other ceremonial activities
Thanks Takao! That appears to be it. And as I know this vet is a VFW member it makes sense. Cheers! Adam
I'm honored to have started a topic that is not only worthy of being pinned as a sticky, but that also inspired the use of the word "agita". ;o) Adam
Technically, as stated, it is a membership ribbon and there is an associated medal that can go with it. Some VFW Posts will also use it (the medal) as an additional award for either longevity or some other "meritorious" work. Most other veteran organizations have some sort of ribbon as well as a lapel pin that normally contains the organizations "crest/symbol". Probably more info then you are looking for.....
