    Hey Chaos_Flame!

Thank you for the apology. I hope you got my reply, my computer did one of those weird things, so I hope it sent.

    Anyways, on to, Munich 1938.

The Munich crisis refers to events taking place in 1938, as a result of events from the previous few years. In March 1936 Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland to reoccupy the area. Britain and France did not oppose this action. Then, in March 1938 Austria was incorporated into the Reich. No opposition again.
In May 1938, Hitler decided that he would annex the Sudetenland, a German-speaking part of Czechoslovakia. France, Britain and the Soviet Union all opposed this and threatened military action.
The British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, went to discuss peace terms with Hitler. On September 29,1938 Hitler, Chamberlain, Benito Mussolini and French Prime Minister Edouard Daladier all met together in Munich. It was agreed that Germany could occupy the Sudetenland and the previous threats of military action by France and Britain were not acted upon.
By giving in Chamberlain hoped for peace. It is still disputed wether or not this was the right move. Surely the Allies betrayed Czechoslovakia by first, guaranteeing the security of their country, then backing down. But if they were not ready for war, or not prepared to back up their guarantee, should they have gave it in the first place?
Maybe just the threat alone would have made Hitler back down. There might not have been a need to go to war. A lot of arguements are that Chamberlain and the others were not forceful enough and that Hitler could have been stopped in September 1938. Who knows for sure?
In September 1939, when Germany invaded Poland, this time France and Britain declared war.

I hope this helps you understand what the Munich Crisis was.
    Cheers!
    Jon

Jon's reply was very fine. I will just say that Germany was surely not prepared for war in 1938(Nor in 1939), if there had been a war it would have come to a death point like in 1914 and germany would have been defeated anyway. France had the largest army in Western Europe by the time, but the Maginot strategy killed the French offensive spirit. The French air force was extremely weak, the RAF had very few aeroplanes. (The Spitfire was still in production planning)and the Luftwaffe was still not very big and strong.

Besides, Franz Halder was planning to put the Führer out of the power, with the aid of several generals and powerful people in the country. The German resistance would have taken Hitler out of the power if Neville Chamberlain would have stood in front of Germany, He did not because he knew that Britain had no army, no airforce and without them their huge navy was not worth it. That year that Chamberlain gave Britain saved it. I think it is not fair when people say that Chamberlain provoked WWII by not stopping Hitler. All 1939 was for the rearment of Britain. The RAF grew as fast as it could and due to it, it was a little big strong to stop hitler in the autumn of 1940. What do you think?
