The US Navy's long coming announcement on allowing women to serve on US subs beginning in Dec 2011 got me to thinking. Is there any account of a woman serving on any sub(s) in WWII (excluding rescue missions, etc.)

A corollary question, do women serve presently in the Navy on any other country's underwater warships?

To my knowledge, no women served on board combat vessels of the US Navy in WW2.

The closest a woman got to serving on a combat vessel, before being "officially sanctioned" by the US government was the USS Arizona in the 20's
