Hey all, I have seen the many threads people have put up about "Quotes of the Day" etc. and I thought this would be an interesting add-on to those types of threads. Anyone can post here, just don't overkill If you do post a photo, please give any desired information about it, such as where it was taken, the date if possible, the subjects in the photo, etc. Thanks! To start things off... A Bren gunner at Douet, France, June 1944. Member of the Durham Light Infantry. A classic but posed study (this used to be my avatar lol).
I like this Idea Object:Avro Lancaster Date Taken:Unknown Short Bio: RAF Heavy Bomber It possessed a maximum speed of 280 mph and a range of 2,700 miles. A full load consisted of about 14,000 lbs. Protection consisted of ten .303 cal. machine guns.
Just an update to the thread rules: One person may post only one photo per day. Photo duplicates posted are not allowed, unless stated (PM me for permission) I myself will try and post one photo a day. Alroight... Taken at KErch on the Crimean peninsula in 1941: dead Ukranian conscripts and Russian soldiers are mourned by families. Titled 'Grief.'
Hello all! Today's photo is: British Anti-tank gun, Unit Unknown, possibly the Green Howards (if anyone has any unit info please post!). Near Villers-Bocage, Mid June 1944. (PS: One of my favorite war photographs of all time!) and to better explain the rules I meant one person can post one photo, but anyone can poast here. In other words, you can post a photo here if you so desire, but only once per day. (talk about a toung twister lol)
Shortly before the D-Day invasion of 1944, Ike talks with members of the 502nd PIR/101st Abn. Division in England.
I don't own that many WWII photos myself, I just look stuff up in books and on the internet and if I see something in a book that I like then I try and look it up. Next: Early model mustangs, possibly of a polish wing, over england, date unknown.
NExt one... Iwo Jima, possibly D-Plus one, a marine examines dead comrades as a Japanese shell explodes in the background.
This one always causes an emotional reaction for me. Unfortunately, at the moment I do not recall the source except that it was online. The aftermath at Dieppe - a scene of great pathos....
HMS Illustrious after a Regia Aeronaitica success Love the Mustang "C's", not many (as many) pictures of them !
Boy, Skonk.... I stared at that photo for I don't know HOW long, and I STILL can't make heads nor tails of it! .... What am I lookin' at??? -whatever -Lou
I'm with Lou on this one...what are we looking at? Looks just like mangled metal to me, with some odd shaped smoke?
Looks too me like a picture of a repair party taken from the deck above. Posibly taken after damge taken off Sicily by air attack?
Slow shutter speed with movement. Yeah, I'm still looking for a pony (Mustang). Perhaps the wrong file was pulled. Interesting image though.
Taken from the flight deck, looking down into where the elevator used to be. The repair party have mostly white hats. The picture is old (see the creases), but taken as soon as it was cool enough to get down there to see what was left. another....Last known picture of Roma, before as well
