Just joined. Grew up in MA and NH. Currently live in Boston. Retired. Spent four years on active duty in the Army. One as an enlisted Infantryman, then went to OCS and jump school. Trained as a Cavalry Officer, went through Ranger School (Class 5-83). Assigned to 3rd Squadron 7th Cavalry 3rd ID. We patrolled a 165km section of the East West German border in Bavaria. Our mission was to prevent war between the 2nd and 11th ACR’s. Left in 1985. Didn’t think the wall would be coming down anytime soon. My father was an aerial gunner and Avistion Machinists Mate. He spent 1942 in Iceland on PBY’s, rest of the war in the Pacific on the Eassex Class carrier USS Wasp. My older brother went through Marine OCS during the Vietnam War but US forces were being withdrawn so he was sent to Okinawa. He later commanded a reserve Infantry Company. Have a wide range of interest in WWII. Visited Normandy with the Squadron’s officers during the 40th Anniversary of DDay and was present at Pointe Du Hoc for the dedication of the Ranger Memorial and heard Mitterrand, Reagan and Thatcher speak. Also met the Ranger veterans present. We toured the invasion beaches and battle sites. My briefing was on the Ranger assault. Lately I’ve had more interest in the Eastern Front.
Nice to have you around. Take a look at all the postings about the Eastern Front. There's plenty of information there. Books to look at, too. Oh, by the way new guy buys the drinks!
Welcome to our neck of the woods. And since I'm getting this copy and paste thing down, SALUTE to ya sir.
People came out of the woodwork for a Change Of Command! My tank section at the border camp in Coburg 1984.
Welcome and Cheers! I have been busy making remarks of the Ostfront so hope you enjoy the details there.
