Ha. Saw the match of the non dueling badminton players. Impressive in it's non compliance to the rules. Kinda like a bad wrestling match.

Just got back from the boxing. 8 light-weight and 8 middle-weight bouts. Excellent atmosphere but when Anthony Ogogo came out to fight the roof nearly came off, when he was announced as winner after a immense performance against the Ukrainian world champion and No.1 seed I think it did. It was tied on points, tied on count back and the judges had to vote on the winner and he won.

I just watched the women's 8 rowing. I taught one of the women (Susan Francia), so I have a vested interest in it. They won the gold which makes it all the better.

This is sort of true, the players get no real recompense for playing (there is a modest payment per player per medal from the USIOC in all sports), and they risk an injury which might be career ending. Stupid things can happen when playing any sport, but basketball is one which really puts knees, ankles, and wrists in danger. A blow-out of one of those joints could end a multi-million dollar career. And they do it because they love it, not for the money. They don't need the money.

As a funny aside, the North Korean Olympians aren't rewarded with a monetary amount from their government, they get a refrigerator for a gold, and other small appliances for lesser medals. If you don't win, place or show in your sport you get sent to a work camp for a year, I'm not kidding.

I read about the North Koreans. I suspect that the work camps are going to be full.

Non-dueling badminton players? What the heck is that? And does that mean dueling badminton players go swashbuckling about with their badminton rackets?

...and now make that third ! Even a hardened Olympics cynic like me has to admit that's not bad going ( although I doubt that Team GB can continue this momentum throughout week 2....)
