I have always thought that Ottoman was just the name the Turks gave their empire, I didn't know it was the name of their own ethnicity, you learn something new everyday. :)

The Turks have their own language and there is only about 30% arabic words in their lingo. Their ancestors came from Persia . The Iranians speak Farci and the Iraqis still call them Persians to show their difference too. Even the Kurds have their own language, except their nation is divided between the national territories of Syria, Turkey , Iraq and even Russia. They hope to gain independence for at least some of these territories. Many of those lands (Syria , Iraq, were former Ottoman territories prior to WWI ) Some of the nationalists do not like the British and the French because they are considered the dividers and the former occupiers of their land in the 1920s. (Syria mandate, Iraq occupation etc...) . The American influence is more reccent, , mainly after the 1970s (Iran , Iraq-Iran war etc..). Believe me the Turks are a fine people and hate ISIS. The trouble is their leader not the population . He won't let the kurds cross the border either.

I don't doubt what you say, I'll renege on my statement about sanctioning them, I have heard that the Turkish people are protesting demanding the government take action against ISIS.

"Believe me the Turks are a fine people and hate ISIS. The trouble is their leader not the population . He won't let the kurds cross the border either. " Yes, Skipper.

Too bad they are stuck with the stubborn Erdy. Glad to see Saudi Arabia and Egypt, with others, organized the defeat of Turkey's UN Security Council inclusion, just last week. The Turks were toasting at the Waldorf Astoria the night before the vote while the Saudi's and Egyptians worked their magic to help Spain and New Zealand get the nod.

I think Turkey still needs to own the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1918, 1.0 to 1.5 million systematically marched, starved or beaten etc. to death. Shameful, criminal and officially sanctioned. Perhaps they have admitted and apologized but I think not - yet. We can hope. Until then I would be in favor of limiting or curtailing Turk foreign aid and of booting them from NATO. USA can upgrade alternative Airfields to replace Incirlik. Just my opinion.

One huge step could be the opening of a corridor into Kobane. How hard can that be? Erdogan is signalling tacit approval of Baghdadi and the Terrorista Slave Trading Caliphate through his intransigent arrogance and inaction, criminal in my mind.

Twitter storm #Airdrop2Kobane is trying to sway Coalition Foreign Policy to approve ammo and medical resupply to the embattled YPG, YPJ and FSA rsistance fighters who fight the free worlds fight against IS.

Failure to act merely solidifies the power vacuum we have created in Iraq and Syria, among other places, that allows Iran to breeze in as they have done and will intensify in the immediate future in Baghdad and Syria. See recent articles on the low profile Qassem Suleimani emerging from the shadows with Mahdi Army Leaders and to help shore up the defense of Baghdad and Amerli.

The Turks have now opened their border and will let Iraqi kurds cross thier border. Their concern is that they wish to be able sort out those who want to help the Kurds in Kobane and those who are insurgeant kurds wishing to fight the Turks themselves (and considered as terrorirst by international standards) .

How is it that post # 20 in this thread - which was originally posted into the USS Liberty thread, suddenly appear in this non related Kurd thread?

Jordan Matson, Racine, WI, YPG volunteer. There are many others being processed into the ranks. One organizer is sorting through 1,000 emails at the moment. No confirmation as yet but the source is reliable so far. Time will tell.

Jordan was injured in the foot - mortar fragment. But will be back on the line as soon as he can get his boot back on.

About 2:00 the wall chewing begins.
Holy cow. ..The .50 tossed that guy into the air? Amazing...What kind of ammo would they be using in the .50, MP?

Maybe not the place ( maybe start a new topic MP), but how does the DShK compare?

You've obviously never seen someone hit by a .50 before. It is amazing. The amount of energy in the round is astounding. They're probably using SLAP rounds, which is quite common.

Even through the mud brick wall. First thought maybe there was a Bradley in the hood. But the hole left was small. Reminds of the argument regarding penetration of M16 vs (was it ?) 30-06 in penetration of mud brick walls.

edit: sorry. Trying now to maintain topic subject. It's hard. Would like to be able to free flow. That's how conversation usually goes.

Yeah the 50 is a right fine shootin' iron. My dad told me about when he was in Korea (during the war), just for shitz and giggles he and a couple of buddies would use the 50 to terrorize the Chinamen across the line from them. Chicom bunkers were several hundred yards (before that metric stuff) out, so he'd lightly tap the butterfly trigger for one round bursts while the other guy would be spotting with binoculars. They'd walk rounds into the bunker apertures one by one until they found the hole, then lock the barrel down and fire for effect. Beats peeling potatoes.

Been out of pocket Mardi Gras'ing. Our parade and Masquerade Ball was this past Saturday night (Krewe of Orion-see my logo). Took off for two weeks prior to get things done since I'm on the board of directors and all. Had a great time, but I'm glad it's over. I feel like I got chased down the street a couple of miles and then beat with the broad side of a boat paddle for about an hour. It'll take a couple of weeks to dry out before I can take another blood test now.

Yup, a shootin' iron can come in many sizes and shapes. And they can break down right when you need them the most you know....

I didn't know it was the .50 that made that guy fly in the air like that either, I just thought that he was hit by a well placed grenade, amazing, I've never doubted the raw power of the .50, but that video only further strengthens my respect for that gun. Excellent video, btw, the Kurds are definitely skilled fighters.
