Well said on the above and I fully agree. politics should be left out of places like Schools and such and concentrate on teaching something useful for a change.

That Red Neck wouldn't want anything to do with the RepubliK of Kalifornia either ;-)) The guys name was Mike if it matters? But basically what mike said that day after some loaded question had been asked by said professor, and Mike said something like, Well if all the lazy welfare people would get up off their big butts and go out and find a job instead of sitting at home that were paying the bills for-drinking beer all day, smoking pot and having sex all the time and producing more in the process. Also, if you think the above were harsh words? that's the cleanest way I could think of posting what Mike had said. He was one of those who always spoke what was on their minds and never played the game of beating around the bush when giving opinions/

Richards spot on about this and, one school they showed video from was in New Jersey, I forget where the other one was?

ward churchill (having no ties with Sir Winston.L.S.Churchill) is a professor at some college in Colorado. I don't remember which one? but it was actually fired a few years ago but somehow got its job back.

I remember being taught songs in school, back in the Eisenhower era, the fifties. It was well into my elementary school years that I figured out why anybody cares if; "José, can you see...?" or if it matters at all, and other kids wondered what a the heck a; "donzer lee light" was? Until the third grade I was confused as to why America the Beautiful is guided by a light from a bulb?

I got over it, but I still remember the mouthing words which made no real sense just to finish the class. Big whoop. That teacher is a dolt, and the kids won't give a rat's behind about this next year or next week.

I also recall some guys arguing with me that the words to CCR's Bad Moon Rising were; there's a bathroom on the right!

Hi Urgh, its fact. It was on all three national news networks as well as Fox news and cnn and its off-spring stations and im sure in the CBN or whatever they call themselves these days? This happened at least 2-3 years ago-I don't remember any exact dates but, it had also been talked almost incessamtly about on many many news radio talks shows and such. I got so sick of hearing about it, that I quit watching or listening to any news-for about 2 months. My DvD and CD playrs got some good workouts during that time, as well as my book collection.

I've never bothered to take the time to do any searches about that twit-so I cannot provide anything here than other than what I saw on TV news.

Ward Churchill is that prof. from Colorado that got dismissed for poor research and such, even though it was obvious to everyone at the time he was dismissed for his statements that those people in the Twin Towers most likely got what they deserved on 9/11, and were all "little Eichmans". He also is a defender of the Native American cause and see them as the ultimate victims, and hold protests against Columbus Day occasionally. Many Amerindians find him to be a distraction, and a detriment to them.

He was reinstated to his position as a tenured professor because a court found he had been terminated under false accusations or something. I think the University is still trying to get rid of the guy, but when you get tenure, that is a toughie.

Hi Clint, I too remember some of the songs I was taught while in school. Some like: Riki Tiki Tavi-which is some sort of Japanese childrens song-I think?? and we were tought thers but, at the time I was in below high school level grades-we did have about an equal mixture of Conservative and non-conservative teachers. I was more than fortunate that most of the Teachers I had-that is, unitill High School, were WWII, Korean and Vietnam War Veterans-or the Wives of. When I got to Highschool, I saw lots less of the simple displaying of American and Texas Flags, and a severe lack of teachers standing up to say the pledge of allegiance. From Grade and Middle School, the teachers stood there along side us as we said the pledge to the raising of the American, Texas and yes-some years I even saw the Confederate Battle Flag raised along with them.

I come from an area that is highly patriotic with most people being retired or active Militara. NAS Kingsville, NAS Corpus CHristi, and NAS Chase Field in Beeville, were the areas nearest Military Bases. Military Personnel were very proud to be seen in town wearing their uniforms. When I was knee-high to a grashopper, I was thrilled when a Sailor or a Marine acknowledged me if we happened to be near each other or merely walking by. So, you can see partof the "roots" to what im ablout. Also, my family has had many members who served in the military since slightly before George Washingtons time. This of course does not include my ancestors who were from Eurpoe ;-))

My Father, served in the Army Air Corps in WWII-through to when it changed to the USAF and served through the Korean War. My next door neighbor, Mr. Klassen-across the alley from us-was carreer Navy. He also was a double war vet-WWII-Korea. Our neighbors on the other side of the house-the Rodriguez's, Mr. Rodriguez served in the Army-not sure if he served during Korea or not? but he also had served two tours in Nam. Mr. Flowers from down the street and across-was a WWI/WWII Army vet. Mr. Rose (and im not kidding) lived directly across the street from The Flowers ;-)) Anyway, Mr. Rose was also a WWI/WWII vet. One block away was the Coles. Mr. Cole had serve in WWI and made the rank of Captain by wars end. I don't remember how long he served but I believe he too, served up to at least 1942. Most of these Gents passed away when I was real young-so I don't remember any of their stories-unfortunately. But I certain do remember they and their wives. I used to wonder over to their houses all the time ;-))

There were many other vets living in and around our neighborhood. Mr. Forrest (again not kidding) was one of my Dads best friends while growing p and he enlisted in the Army Air Corps when my Dad did-along with a few other good buddies like-Dr. Fred G Leon, and a man my dad later worked in a Civil Service job wth by the last name of Pena. They all joined together and they all did their basic training in San Antonio-Lackland AFB I think? or Kelly???

So yup, I come from an area that was full of current serving and to Veterans. The American flag flew from many houses in the neighborhood for years and years. The flags started to dissappear when the vets moved or when they passed away. I sure miss them all-especially Capt Cole, and Mr. Forrest, Mr.Rose, Mr. Flowers and Mr. Klassen especially. As far as I know, Mr. Rodriguez is still living and I am making plans to visit he and his wife next time im in Kingsville.

Hi Clint, I don't observe Columbus Day either-but for other reasons. One of which being that the Vikings came somewhere near the area hundreds of years earlier-even i that was at or near current day Canada ;-)) I wonder wy a day is not named after the man this COuntry is named after-Americas Guspardi (SP?) I definately would celebrate a day named after him ;-))

From what I've read this was just one class in New Jersey which was filmed singing the song in celebration of Black History month.

I actually disagree with so much of your response I can't quote it all. But I'm going to focus on the teacher part. Your high school and college days took place where? I'm guessing close to one another. Before I continue I'll wait for your replay. I went to high school in lower Michigan, undergrad college in Upper Michigan, graduate school in Tennessee, and spent a lot of time through the midwest and deep south. I met my fair share of teachers.

They saying that it was because they were celebrating black history month is just another excuse to allow that garbage to happen. You KNOW that that is BS.

Any form of brain washing is wrong and when this takes place on children I question the fact of the person who is doing this.

Right, lets throw some facts into the equation:

    1. It was shot in February 2009 at B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington Township, N.J.

    2. The song was sung by 18 kids in a single school as part of a 'Black History Month' project

    3. An investigation is underway by the local DOE however the teacher retired last summer (it wouldn't surprise me if she retired on someones suggestion).

    4. The video's release was not authorised by the school who are also looking into the issues around filming kids, privacy and so on.

So, is this a step on the way to communist Russia? Not really, I saw films of kids singing songs about Bush on various occaisions as well as his predecessors. Is it dodgy? Sure, I don't particularly think kids should be getting this kind of political claptrap rammed down their throats at such an early age (though I feel the same about all brainwashing including religion so what do I know). Is it part of some sort of campaign to create a new Amerikaner Obama Bunde? Clearly not considering it's age and small scale.

So, is it a bit stupid? Yes. Is it Obama's fault? No. Is it something we should be worried about? No more than we should worry about any of the other nonsense kids get taught in school.

    Factual info from:
PolitiFact | GOP claims video shows public B. Bernice Young Elementary School students made to sing about Obama
    B. Bernice Young Elementary School

(N.B. This is called posting your sources. It isn't tough and isn't always necessary but it does at least prove that your opinion isn't based simply on hearsay and prejudice if you provide some evidence when asked)
