Green Day are doing well in my charts at the moment. BTW is it true that their album 'American Idiot' was banned in the US, due to the song 'American Idiot'? as it has lots of anti-american lyrics in it?
Roel. I have heard of the Beatles, I have heard of the Stones, but I have never heard of Neither. Are they a Dutch Band?
i agree in me262's statement that it depends on the mood when im "down" i like to hear beatles, it makes me happy when i hunger for beautyful music i her led zep's stairway to heaven when i need music with feelings i hear the wall or dark side of the moon by pink floyd. when i want to dance i hear dance macabre by camille saint saens (dunno why ..........and when i just want to get my brains blown out and think of nothing, i hear rammstein. but if i hear rammstein or any other heavy-bands for a long time(2 months) i get depressed and i get down, so i hear beatles! and so it continues...........
favorite songs It depends on what mode I am in. and what mood. when I am a German officer its Panzer Lied, Erika, Die Fahne hoch, Lilli Marlene, Deutschland erwache, Westerwald Lied, Markische Heide, weit ist der weg zuruck ins heimatland und so weiter. when I am religious its. Must Jesus bear the cross alone? and all the world go free?, No theres a cross for everyone and theres a cross for me. when I am a 40s GI its Moonlight Serenade, when I am feeling classical is die Fledermaus, and verdi and wagner and bach and schubert and beethoven and Berlioz. who can choose? I get so wrapped up in all my music. and of course when I play its Trumpet Voluntary
songs I even have come to like some Opera. Notably.. Ma Parees, tut Amor...la Nozze de Figaro. die Zauberflotte. Carmen and like that I like the Rosenkavalier.
Speaking about Opera: It's time to say Goodbye; Andrea Borcelli Sarah Brightman, really nice song  don't know if it is really Opera though...
post subject Favourite song, always makes hair on neck stand up, Lilli Malene by Lale Andersen closely followed by the Malene Dietrich version, the No.1 song of WW2 ,sang by all armies. Have you noticed that all German songs of WW2 were of the "Panzerlied" and "Donner und Blitzen" type but the American, British, Canadian etc. were of the "Don't Sit under the Apple tree, Mairsy Doats,Kiss me Goodnight Sgt. Major,Bluebirds etc.
There is Jill Daniel's "Lili". But it's only 32 kbps MP3. http://www.jilldaniels.com/LILI-MARLENE.htm
Re: post subject It might be a different attitude among the soldiers, after all the Germans were the agressors and initially proud of it too.
Furthermore, the English translation completely f***ed up the lyrics. These are the original German words: 1. I could try to translate it, but it certainly wouldn't fit the melody anymore. At least the lads from the website above were kind enough to link to these lyrics. Edit: self-censorship
The germans soldiers i kenw in Kosovo all liked a song called "Hey, wir wollen die Eisbären sehen" (spelling?). It sounded every day several times in every bar and stereo players.
post subject Very good Roel, that's the version I sing! but do you know the words to "D Day Dodgers"?
