Well I would have put it in the Red Sox Nation thread but there are only about three of us posting there. . . . I just had to take advantage of the wider audience!

I still want to see the Sox beat the Yankees in the post season but I was pleased to watch Mr. Jeter tonight. He has been a fine ambassador of the game during the past decade of scandal, and I cannot think of a better modern Yankee to take the All-Time Hits crown from Lou Gehrig. It will be a pleasure to watch Jeter become the first Yankee to 3000 hits and then to see him enshrined as a first ballot Hall of Famer. My hat goes off to him tonight.

The Red Sox are my team, too, but you have to admit that Jeter has been a remarkable player and a remarkable presence for a good many years now. When you think back to the days when Jeter, Tejada, A-Rod and Nomar were the up and coming shortstops, I don't think that there is any doubt that Jeter will be known to history as the most valuable of them all, despite A-Rod gawdy numbers.

Absolutely, I greatly admire Jeter as a player. I think he is a great example for aspiring players and plays the game they way its supposed to be played, with respect for the game itself and its players. and I am very happy to see him at the 3,000 hit mark :)

You have an opportunity to be proud Yankee fans....just don't get too comfortable ;)

Yep. The Sox will take the Yankees down before the Series. In all honesty, though, I don't think any AL team is going to beat St. Louis in the Series. The Cardinals' starting pitching since the break has been scary good.

How many rich baseball players do you see vs how many rich soccer players?
(NOTE: Anser is like, ALL:1 ratio)
    Comparing the two is lame.

On to a more productive debate. Although a Red Sox fan, I still have tremendous respect and admiration for Derek Jeter. He has been a great role model for the game since his first season. Now, remarkably, he is the all-time Yankee hit leader. A friend on Facebook tried to make the case last night the Jeter is now the greatest Yankee of all time. I agree that he is great, but argued that Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time and therefore the greatest Yankee of all time. My counterpart and her friends all disagreed with me. (I think part of the problem is that Derek Jeter is apparently "hot" and the lady Yankee fans with whom I was debating cannot see past that.)

Do any Rogues disagree with me and think that somehow Jeter is the all time greatest?

I believe some people think DJ is the greatest just because they were never able to see Ruth & Gehrig, etc play the game. I am a huge Yankees fan and Jeter fan; he's in the Top 5 for me, but not the greatest.
