Hi, I just came across this forum & this is my first post. I posted this question on other forums and I got two replies, 1 each on two different forums and they weren't sure. I have a German Entrenching tool, Waffen ampt & maker marked 89 and dated 1940. The rivets that hold the shovel on the wooden handle are ground flush on both sides. I was wondering if this was done at the factory or post war. I saw other examples that have been ground & some that have not. This shovel does not appear to be a Norwegian issue. There are no traces of green paint, it looks totally untouched. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    del

Hi del, i would bet that the rivets were not flush after they were made, more like that each soldier had his own preferences where some filed them down where others didn't bother? :der:
