Welcome Rob, glad you found us too. Admittedly I did not read much of your site. I had Googled "casual" "army" "1944" (maybe more) and your site came up. I read the page I excerpted and stopped when it seemed to confirm my past understanding of the replacement system. Sites like yours and the website of the guy that started this thread are a great resource and a true labor of love. A salute to your efforts. I now wonder what higher command the Replacement Battalions belonged to. I saw on your site the mention of a Quartermaster Group headquarters. I assume those were a regional command for a collection of units whose efforts needed to be coordinated. I had heard of Engineer and Artillery Group headquarters so it stands to reason. I also saw a reference to a Ground Forces Replacement Command which I assume was back in the States. They most likely had control of the whole system to include the Replacement Training Centers. Well I hope you stick around, feel free to start on thread on your grandfather and his unit. Where there are gaps in the information, we'll be glad to speculate or offer viable explanations. Enjoy.
Dave, True, But I found that the Eisenhower Museum also had a copy of all morning reports for the 781st Tank Battalion. There may be others available? That might serve as a good alternate source. John
on a company morning report that i have of my father -in-law it says this, 'fr dy to abs sk LD (slightly) 618th Clearing Sta 8 aug 44, prim dy 734, non battle casualty, dropped fr asgmt per sec 2 Cir 69 Hq ETOUSA dated 13june1944' --can anybody help translate this to me? ted
He was moved from a duty status to "absent sick (slightly) while in the line of duty" transferred to the 618th Clearing Station on 8 August 1944,his primary duty was 734 (MOS code - half-track driver), and he was dropped from assignment to his unit per section 2 of circular 69 promulgated by Headquarters European Theater of Operations, US Army dated 13 June 1944.
