Kursk would be my #1 (With the addition of the recapture of Kharkov, Belgorod and Orel), #2 would be any famous Hannibal Barca victory from the 2nd Punic War (more so Battle of Cannae rather then the battles of the Trebia and Lake Trasimene). #3 would have to be something commanded by Alexander III of Macedon, probable the Battle of Gaugamela, what an awesome commander!!!! Therefore, I have my three favorite commanders covered in probable some of their greatest moments; Erich Von Manstein, Hannibal Barca and Alexander III of Macedon.
And not just the new ones.... Just now, I'd love to be in the navigator's seat of one of the leading Mosquitoes on the Amiens Raid.... ....just to hear those engines and experience combat flying at 20ft [ 20. May 2005, 03:54 PM: Message edited by: Martin Bull ]
I agree Kai, Kursk would be my pick too. So many thousands of tanks going at it so ferociously, air battles and tactical air strikes... Mind you, the thread asks what battle I would want to watch, I would certainly not want to be a participant!
I wouldn't mind being at the Siege of Alesia in 52BC to watch Caesers army give siege to Vercingtorix.
I don't think the proverbial 'fly on a wall'would've lasted long at Kursk, still I'd have loved to see it. Or the Germans storming the forts at SEVASTAPOL, using railway guns[artillery].
Battle of Kircholm Battle of Cecora Battle of Chocim Battle of Kluszyn Battle of Grunwald Siege of Vienna Battle of Trzciana Bzura counteroffensive(1939) Battle of Warsaw(1920) Lenino Studzianki Monte Cassino
I'd like to see a number of battles throughout history like: Hastings,Waterloo,Vicksburg,Tours,Stalingrad, and Bunker's Hill.
I'd still like to view the Battle of Jutland. I really cannot imagine the sights and sounds of such an incredible clash of naval might....
I realize this may be more than late, but I would like to answer this question. -Thermopylae -Guagamela -Cannae -Normandy Invasion -Berlin 1945 To be honest, as it was earlier stated by General der Infanterie Friedrich H, I would not like to actually see any of these as we all know how horrible war truly is. But for the sake of answering this question, those are my answers.
pre ww11 i think it would have to be culloden, the flower of scotland gone and all that it entailed. ww11 the battle for the keren ranges in eritrea, everyone who thinks the italians were poor troops should also watch this one. post ww2 the battle at gloucsters hill korea.
Well fellas, for me from an avid 3rd ID historians view point I'd love to watch in full detail the Battle of the Marne-Defensive and Counteroffensive of July 14th-18th 1918. The battle in which the division won its divisional namesake..."ROCK OF THE MARNE!" Regards, MARNE
of course there would have to be roukes drift in my list too along with the Ia Drang valley (first large scale meeting of the us army and viet cong /nva)also as a big kid i would love to sit on a hill crack open a couple of tinnies and watch the charge of the light brigade.
