Whilst at the Sandy Creek watch post I wanted to try and simulate what it would be like to be in a raid. Hope you enjoy this one.

Bombing of Darwin , by Roy Wheeler.

The first bombing caught the Australians by surprise...A lack of leadership and communication meant the place erupted with fear and confusion scattering the population, military and civilian. A single Kittyhawk went up to intercept the waves of Japanese aircraft (what a legend) but was quickly shot down.

Jack Peres was the first pilot to be killed in the raid. His Kittyhawk crashed near Gunn Point, east of Darwin. NOTE:- The story that Robert Oestreicher shot down two Vals is disputed by several historians.
