    I was kind of thinking the same thing Nigel! All the while hoping it wasn't going in that direction.

    Returning to the bayonet - I got a hit that said Franchi in Brescia, Italy made the M1938, It's the same company as that first link i gave.

    On cleaning the blades, you won't do any harm with a soft cloth and a small amount of mineral gun oil (make sure it's gun oil, not just anything) - usually lifts a lot of dirt off.
