My votes for L.O.T.R elite forces would be............................... Evil: Ringwraiths. Good Guys: Ents.
That's very true, Dave. They would have done much work in the Middle-East conflict. As for elite LOTR units, I say: Good: Tom Bombadil and Goldberry Evil: Old Man Willow and Suladan Any more on the Brownies or LOTR?
Roel, Tom Bombadil is a man who lives on the Barrow-Downs, somewhere omitted from the films. An area just outside of the Shire, between Buckleberry Ferry and Bree. He has a house there and lives with his wife Goldberry. He is the eldest creature alive, he was there before Elves and men. He is impervious to the Ring, and can defeat any foe on his lands by singing at them. Goldberry also sings alot. Old Man Willow is an evil tree which the Hobbits encounter in the old forest (another area missed out in the films) he traps them amongst his roots and would have killed them all were it not for the fact that Tom Bombadil came along and sung to him, subduing him. Finally, Sulaldan is the evil serpent lord of Harad. He is a clever assasin and killed many Knights of Dol Amroth during the Gondorian occupation of Umbar.
dave. Brownies originally formed in 1914. Not now regular army as nomeclature is as follows........... Section = Sixies. Platoon = Pack. Commanding Officer = Guider. Special yellow dress uniforms. Camo gear for active service. Medals = Badges of honour.Worn on special sash. Oath of alliegance, taken at enrollment ceremony in presence of reigning monarch. "I promise that I will do my best: To love my God, To serve the King/Queen and my country, To help other people and To preserve the secrecy of the Brownie organisation. Cap Badge as attatachment below.
Darn. david, I split this topic. Please copy & paste this post to http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1651
Going back to LOTR (fianlly) Roel, based on what you have seen from the films. Who are your best evil and good troops/units/characters etc.
Best evil: trolls, I think. At least they are the toughest, all the others will die instantly. Ringwraiths are pretty elite too, but they have a mission, they aren't really troops as they are leaders, special forces if you will. Best good: Elves. For some reason elves can annihilate whole orc armies with just a few arrows. And of course the characters of the Fellowship are all mystically invincible.
Personally, I always thought the dwarfs were the best fighters (or at least very good) but they kinda keep out of things in LOTR (besides Gimli, and the colonists massacred in Moria) For evil? Gimme a regiment of cave trolls, with them great flying serpent thingies as air cover!
Ah yes! Another one who loves the axemen. I would say they are the best fighters too, but there's only one of them in the movies and he is constantly mocked. For no reason.
Yes, Gimli really became the 'comic relief' in the 2nd & 3rd films, after Merry & Pippin's plot got serious.
Would that be McPippin the famous Caledonian Hobbit? (JRR would turn in his grave) BTW I thought that the actor who played Gimli was superbly cast, even if he had a terrible script.
Indeed, he was every inch the dwarf he was supposed to play. Don't laugh at people because they are small! A story of the magnitude of LOTR doesn't really need a comic relief, or even a romantic subplot (which I am told wasn't in the books either). However if you intend to provide a comic relief, do so by introducing comical characters like the hobbits (I didn't mind the comoc relief of Merry & Pippin). Do not desacrate the likes of Gimli, son of GloĆn! In the extended version of the films, brought out on DVD, Gimli actually gets a better part in the scene where the Fellowship says goodbye to Galadriel. He gets to do his "all I could ask is a strand of your beautiful hair" thing!
It's good to see that everybody has a good interest in LOTR. They have amazing strength, and excellent armour, and the elves know it. They even say so in the Hobbit, at the slopes of Erebor when they are discussing the up-coming battle between themselves and the Dwarves. Cave Troll ARE good. BUT ACHTUNG, ATTENTION, WARNING, etc. Just one ray of sunlight, and they will be turned to stone (but at least then they will have good armour!) As for the Flying thingies, I guess so. But did you know that nobody, not even Tolkien knows their name. They are simply called 'Fell Beasts'. Many of the extended scenes are from the book, and that is one of them. IE The ROTK extended edition features the Mouth of Sauron (or Sauron's Lieutenant) it also features Gandalf and the Witch-King having a verbal fight. Roel, to which 'romantic subplot' are you refering?
