    Japan 1936 Recap

Japan, spent the year planning and preparing for unspecified future wars. Increasing the IC, and researching new weapons tech's became the countries main concern. During the year they practiced a need for amphibious assaults, giving birth to possible Marine divisions. Following along the lines of the United States, Japan would begin research into Mass Assembly. New tanks capable of a 30mm gun have also been looked into, as well as the new doctrine of Motorized HQ's becoming operational. A vast array of new front line weapons have also been incorporated into the military allowing each individual soldier to become much more deadly to any enemy. Toward the end of the year war planning was stepped up as civilian reports claimed Chinese troops frequently crossing the boarder. It was found that an expansion of the military would be necessary. Six new infantry divisions where trained, including two crack Mtn. Divisions, and all existing divisions were reinforced to the maximum. Six Divisions where placed near the Chinese boarder near Beijing to prevent any further cross boarder raids. The bulk of the IJN has been deployed to the Korean Peninsula in case of future Chinese aggression.

    1937

The first six months of 1937 saw the Japanese military gear up for total war. All divisions training in the homeland have been redeployed. constant boarder clashes throughout the beginning of the year made it completely evident that Japan must punish there aggressive Asian neighbors. 12 Divisions, including the countries only Marines are preparing for a assault on Shanghai and further pushes toward the Chinese capital. Another Six divisions are preparing for a landing Just behind the Chinese front lines in the north. The main push by Japanese Forces will be toward Beijing and just to the East with other forces pushing south from the west of the city. Further new weapons technologies have given the military leadership the impression they can not be stopped. China MUST pay.

July - The spokesman for the emperor announced to the nation a military operation against the Chinese. Dancing occurred in the street as the people rejoiced. The honor of the nation was at stake. The military has only referred to a China Incident, but the population knows it means war. The first troops to meet the enemy is the invasion force out of Formosa. Shanghai falls quickly under the weight of 12 Divisions with battleships providing fire support. Immediately four divisions dig in for counter attack while another head march off to take the Chinese capital. The Chinese navy met the Combined Fleet and humbled them quickly. Though the Chinese where defeated quickly it was at the loss of two cruisers and a battleship destroyed and one crippled. By the 16th Japan seemed in control. With Japanese quickly nearing Beijing and flanking the city to the east ( the western pincer movement was canceled do to the formation of nearly 20 militia divisions) The landing force from Hiroshima landed behind enemy line uncontested. The next day the battle of Beijing began in and to the east of the city. The battles here where hard fought but the city fell by the end of the month and the eastern flank had met up with the six divisions which had landed prior to the battle. Military strategists were shocked on the 27th to find that the Shanghai landing force had taken the Chinese capitol. There knowledge of event where limited but they where informed by American diplomats who protested the occurrence of a slaughter taking place inside the city.(Nanking Massacre triggered)

August- As Chinese Divisions scrambled to deploy to positions to repulse new attacks, Japanese troops moved to the west of Beijing. The battle didn't last long as Numerical superiority was in Japans favor. Attacks commenced to the South of Beijing as well, though a bitter battle ensued there is no stopping the might of Japan. A new push South of Shanghai occurred and then turned west in an attempt to surround five divisions along the coast. Four of those divisions were able to barely get out before the attack but the last one didn't make it and is now trapped and facing destruction. With the capture of the provinces west and south of Beijing nine divisions began the slow advance southeast. Other Divisions to the east are pushing south as well. It is expected that by the end of Sept. Japanese forces will control all territory between the Hwang Ho and Hwang He rivers, and an expected linkup with the Shanghai forces by the end of October.

I'm playing on HOI 1 without any expansions. That might be why. I expect that besides a few tech's and triggered event's it's mostly the same, though probably a little more cumbersome

September - September started out badly for Japan as troops in the Shanghai beachhead moved to destroy the cut of Chinese division. The Chinese were able to convince the local residents to form a second militia division, though they stood no chance of success, to few troops were left to guard the rear and a successful breakthrough attempt occurred cutting the southern front in half. The two militia divisions, previously surrounded now had a place to retreat. In the Northern Front, Japanese troops reached the Hwang Ho river but after a terrible fight, with my Japan on the verge of another great victory China reinforced with five divisions, quickly followed by four more. outnumbered and with three divisions on the verge of ceasing to exist as fighting units Japan withdrew on the 24th. Japans carrier and battleship forces redeemed the navy when the remainder of the Chinese fleet sailed to battle. Sustaining no losses gunfire sank three cruisers while air attack sank a fourth. An effort was made to re-connect the two sections of the southern front but again with Japan just on the verge of victory, China reinforced with five divisions. Before own reinforcements could arrive my armies withdrew, suffering 75 percent casualties. The whole month wasn't a total loss when troops from Beijing attacked and took the mountains to the southwest with air support, and China withdrew from there northernmost territory, allowing for more division to be sent south.

October - The first half of October saw my armies recuperating from previous defeats. On the southern front a new attack was made on the 16th to take the port and rejoin the split front. 3 new divisions had arrived from the North via transports and the Chinese were overpowered after a week of fighting. Just before the port could be taken the Last two remaining Cruisers of the Chinese Navy left port and ran into a powerful force in waiting. The were quickly sunk. All Japanese transports can transit the along the coast without worry. On the northern front renewed attacks took place along the Hwang Ho river and were successful. Six divisions immediately headed across the river in an attempt to create a corridor to the southern front while simultaneously cutting off as many Chinese divisions as possible. With all territories north of the river taken, four divisions departed to reinforce the southern front

November - As winter approaches leadership is beginning to get desperate. The Armies are a month behind schedule, and most troops need to cross rivers to engage the enemy. Northern front forces engage Chinese forces on the southern side of the Hwang Ho river in a lopsided battle. Light casualties are taken and three divisions move south the meet with Southern forces about to engage the enemy followed by three more five days later. Seven Divisions from the South moved North and engaged with the Chinese who were immediately reinforced. The battle would be long and hard fought. Reinforced on the 16th by three Divisions from the north evened the odds in terms of Divisions but not in numbers as my forces had not received fresh troops in quite a while. Five more divisions moved in on the 20th, two from the south and three more from the north. With a constant stream of aircraft bombing enemy positions the tide of battle swung in my favor. The cost would be high, as the first seven divisions to engage the Chinese would receive about seventy-five percent casualties. The victory however perceived by the outside world was not a puric victory. The northern and southern fronts have now created a corridor for which supplies and troops may be moved more quickly, and my armies have trapped 19 divisions along the coast. On the southern most divisions engaged two Chinese divisions further south along the coast, destroying one and creating 90 percent casualties to another. The tide of war is speeding up in Japans favor. Two new divisions are now ready for deployment with another two to be ready in the first week of December. Training has begun on another six divisions and the country is building it's first Tank division.
