Minnie Vautrin was a missionary in Nanking when it fell to the Japanese in 1937. She was the dean of Ginling Girl's College at the time, and she helped turn Ginling into a refuge camp for women. Sadly, she suffered a mental breakdown after returning to America and committed suicide in 1941.
