It doesn't matter at all. Science is based on facts, not "feelings & opinions". Now, that, beyond any doubt, Britain has destroyed archives, we know that "facts“ are based on propaganda/lies, how can we trust angthing. The ministry of lies has never been closed, so we know that the entire " history" is a pile of lies, completly unsupported by documents. We all know that British view on WW2 history is entirely unsupported by documents, written by German war criminals. Whom can we beleive? The entire Western view on history of the Eastern Front is worse than a myth. It is deliberate forgery. Pure P. R. O. P. A. G. A. N. D. A.
You would't be talking if Patton had his way in spring 1945. Too bad he didn't but 20/20 always is good. My avatar will brush your teeth, man who was telling he was away for months. How many months already?
There is just a smidgeon of a hint of a leap in your conclusion. Because some parts of the Colonial archives were destroyed, suddenly all British history is lies... come on, even you have to admit that's far too big a jump.
So for this I would REALLY like to have some RELIABLE sources - if it does not take too much effort,.....
I'm also curious what he would state as the 'real' version of the Eastern Front. And, obviously, what the sources are.
Given that the Western view of the Eastern Front is based mostly on Soviet archival material...Unfortunately, you are probably correct. Glantz was a total Soviet/Russian tool. Complete git he was, to fall for such Soviet P.R.O.P.A.G.A.N.D.A.
Who's talking about science? History is not pure science, it's SOCIAL science, and it's based first and foremost on sourced OPINION. And that, my dear Tamino, can derive from a "feeling" about the subject matter that you then go to the source material to "prove". Not all Soviet history is propaganda. But all propaganda is history. And comments about British Imperialism still have nothing whatsoever to do with the Eastern Front mythology of WW2.
Why did the Soviets make such a fuss of Prokhorovka? Because only they knew the truth. What a lie! The mother lie of all lies.
Maybe because Prokhorovka represented a tactical defeat and exposed deficiency in leadership as well. The Soviets made wild claims of 100 Tigers present on the field. German records state clearly that they had just 16. Other tactical deficiencies would have been exposed, like charging German tanks at full speed en mass to close the range as quickly as possible. German positions held off wave after wave of Soviet assaults. The Soviets had to explain why the Germans retreated in terms that were favourable. We now know the reason. Allied landings in Sicily caused the Fire Brigade units to quit the field and go to Italy. Citadel was an I'll judged offensive move that backfired. Guderian protested vigorously even before the order to advance, and was proven correct in his assumption that it was worthless territory and a complete waste of time and resources..
In Winter War the Soviet troops believed that Finnish snipers were shooting from the trees. So far not one Finnish sniper has claimed he climbed up the tree. But this was the reason Russians called Finnish snipers 'cuckoo's...
I believe that the cuckoos weren't snipers but artillery observers. Trees are deathtraps yet both Soviets and Germans at some point or another used them. We should also recall that Finland didn't have a sniper training program until 1943 and when the term "cuckoo" was coined that was before Finland had any trained snipers. Finland had good shooters, some of whom knew how to use scopes.
I think the mother of all lies is that under communism there would be a redistribution of wealth and all would share equally. Nope. An oligarchy enjoyed received the benefits of socialism and the proletariat/peasants got scrutinized by the NKVD or a free trip to Siberian gulag. That lie is still believed by many of the young folks today. Sorry for straying off topic.
Are you saying the Finns could not Fight? The Russians were Ukrainians with just overcoats. It's like saying the Siberian troops could not fight to save Moscow?! Did they? I guess not. Not comparable? Or is it? Well somebody fought...And won, btw.
Myth? The Ussr did not beat the Finnish army in the Winter Army. And we got as much help as Poland. Winston only wanted Kiruna ore.
