So totally true Miguel. Coming from what or part of what you said above-is THE REASON why I just walked away from a few other forums including two Militaria forums-especially mcf-and i've never looked back. I did take note that articles still appear on another militaria site-which is ran by a baldheaded punk (with no offences meant to any bald guys here) Some of these articles bear photos of MY stuff and is used w/o MY permission. However, since others learn from seeing those photo's-I look the other way. Anyway Miguel, I saluted you on a very well put post.
I found that whilst Paddy could be every bit as devious as Roger he could at least change his mind later and say he was wrong. Roger is in another league altogether!
Although I never have seen PK admit to being wrong on somehting-you are correct and he is definately not like roger is. I was one of the original core members there (along with a few other Gents on this site) who had helped roger build that site. As we all know-roger would turn on anyone without an excuse and without any notice. I saw everything that went on behind the scenes-I was even one of the top in charge for several months-but my first blemish (for lack of better wording) was when I came to the defense of several very knowledgable people that roger hates for one reason or another. One of them in particular-this guy (roger) even got tossed into jail for hiring two thieves to break into this well-known German militaria collector/author of many great militaria referance books house, to steal what they could for him. It was well-known by roger-that this man was going to be out of town on a certain weekend attending a huge Militaria Show-the Max Show-if I remember correctly? Anyway, the person who was robbed-was Lt.Col. John R. Angolia-and who also was one of the "Big Boys" who helped start rogers site. A few well-known West Coast Mil collectors were also ones that got the site off the ground and to a running start. I have heard that roger mainly keeps his mostly non-militaria and mostly pornographic site, up and running as an anti-waf and anti-Detlev Niemann site. I got into trouble of sorts there-because I flat out refused-on rogers orders-to bash certain well-known collectors in public-or private-as well as dealers I had been buying from for several years including Detlev Niemann. I had to publicly defend Detlev-Helmut Weitze and a few other dealers-but most or all of my defending postings were deleted by the slimy guy from Illinois. I was also punished partly because I refused to "SPY" on other sites-including this one. Another ""bad thing"" I did, was come to the defense of W.C. Stump-before he passed away. Both roger and W.C. Stump-had also been members on this site about 4 or more years ago. Of course, rogers hatred for this Mil collector/amature Historian, was also brough to this site and caused much trouble. Anyway, everytime I defended W.C. Stump-roger would get angrier and angrier and not long after-I simply walked away and have never looked back. In the meantime, and on several occasions in the past two years-I have been asked to come back but have kindly declined. Im off my soapbox but, I fully agree with you on the above. Best regards-C.
My goal everyday is to try and post over 75% WWII related posting, but because of threads like these my wish will probably never be granted. It seems people will be ready to put a lot of energy in this kind of discussions. I prefer opening a book, search on the internet or scan a picture to share with you instead. It's much more useful and it does not waste my time.
Musso, I'm a bit lost with your post above... I don't think anybody is in the least criticizing the Mods here. Especially as such behaviour would receive a from !!! It is my democratic belief that even Mods do not hold their title by Divine Right (or Left as Slip leaves implied), but in any case I don't think they are being the object of criticism in this thread. Well, maybe they were at the beginning, but this particular thread has veered off-course as so many threads do, and thankfully so in this particular instance as an interesting point has been raised. von Poop and Skipper seem to agree, and I am between two stools: I still think we do need a place to vent steam off and the FFZ is it; on the other hand perhaps we don't need some frivolous discussions has some have been and which could be had instead in other, more specialized, forums.
There is also something to be said for having the ability to explore topics of interest with people who share a common interest -- a common interest in WWII in the case of this forum. Every Rogue should, in theory, be interested in the study of the Second World War. Otherwise they do not belong here. To the extent that we share that common interest, to varying degrees and with a multitude of focii, I think it is also interesting to see where we have other viewpoints that are shared. The FFZ (and sports) sections are useful to that end. The problem comes when we see participants in a discussion (i) make the discussion personal, or (ii) make the discussion nasty. For a forum like this to be enjoyable -- at least from my perspective -- all of its members must share a common desire to share information, to learn, and to debate (sometimes spiritedly!) towards a productive conclusion. Sometimes the conclusions will be objective (as in when did something happen) and sometimes they will be subjective (as in what is the best WWII film of all time). Sometimes no conclusion will be possible. Regardless, the collateral discussions that do not really cover WWII will always give us greater insight into what makes the other Rogues tick and thus a better perception of their credibility. Whether we agree or not, that knowledge is a good thing.
Ive got an idea now i have been firmly kicked up the arse for asking what i felt was a fair question could i please have a RELPLY.I know why Mortman, was DD so i dont need to know it was kinda obvious why Dark ice, was binned the question was is it not a worry or concern that some members show a leaning towards nazi worship with thanks.Jason
Jason -- I am not a mod but I recognize that they have a thankless task as it is. If they open their internal debates and discussions for public scrutiny, this forum -- any forum -- would become unmanageable. Just take comfort in knowing that they do a good job and are all highly respected members of this community. Trust them to do what is best for this forum and appreciate their effort. Then move along to other threads. I think this one is done (but I leave that to the mods to determine!). Cheers!
DG thanks for that i put my name as i felt i was being talked about but ignored i will happily move on i have said my piece.
We have a set of standards and ethics when it comes to this forum. Anything deemed pro-Nazi is a warning bell, and neo-Nazis tend to share the same logic and love of all things Nazi. There is a reason we don't allow names like "hitler" or 'Pro-Nazi' Signatures. As far as the signatures go, we ask for them to be changed (1st warning). Some things obviously = instant ban, and we wait for other 'Neo-Nazis' to cross that line before banning them. We give everyone a chance, most of them use it pretty quickly.
Heartily agreed! Wtid, you've got it from the horse's mouth already. Concerning Mortman, even agreeing with his ideas or not, you have to admit he was sounding monotonouly annoying, wasn't he? It was all rant, rant, rant. And of course you and I have no idea of what went behind the scenes.
Regardless of someone's personal alignment or agenda, it is how that person comports themself that reflects upon their character. A personal attack, whether it comes from a punk kid who lives in his basement and thinks Nazis are cool, or if it's a decorated military officer is a personal attack nonetheless, and it's my understanding that the Mods will stand for none of it - which I wholly support. This is not a place where we can personally attack one another's views or opinions. But I think it is to be a place where stimulating, educated conversation between scholars with open minds can take place. I believe neither is possible with the volatile/narrow minded attitudes of either who are referenced in this case.
You are so right, Lippert. I laid some rep points on you for that insightful comment. Discuss whatever you want*, but leave the ad hominem, accusatory and supposition comments out. *Within reason, of course. Broaching subjects like the merits of child pornography will cause you to find yourself bounced unceremoniously out the door.
Not to continue this topic because it seems the points have been made but out of curiosity can someone fill me in on exactly what happened with MORTMAN exactly?
