Anyone see the Simpsons episode where Homer gets control of a car company and the design of a new car?

Yes, seen the one where Bart sees visions of his Future and Lisa is the First Hetero Female President of America and she was trying to tell America about a big tax hike to pay off America's demanding creditor's after President Donald Trump got America into a lot of debt?

An interesting aspect of this election was the enormous turnout by blue collar voters for Trump. The turnout was so huge that it gave him blue states that not a single poll or pundit had predicted, and handed him the election. It's surprising because traditionally those with lower income have always supported the democrats.

We may be seeing a real shift in American politics, and one that has more to do with the democratic party than with Trump, or the republicans. The democrats have morphed into an elitist party - put coal miners out of business and throw billions at failing solar companies (to illustrate with a particularly idiotic example). I don't know if this indicates a lasting change in the American political landscape or was just a reaction to Hillary, widely viewed as a corporate shill.

    We live in interesting times.

CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY TO MAKE CALIFORNIA A SEPARATE COUNTRY

There is a campaign underway for California to become its own nation, lead in large part by Shervin Pishevar, an early investor in Uber. He's funding a campaign for the Golden State to secede from the union.

I think people who want to move to Canada, break away from the US, don't respect democracy or love America, to abandon ship so readily.

    You are from Finland.?
Let me give you some California History:
    1. A bigger "economy" than many countries.
    2. Should be its own country.
    3. There should be two States/Countries...North Cal and South Cal
    4. The State(s)/Country(s) of California(s) is going to (along the imaginary lines of a map) fall off into The Pacific Ocean during our next big earth-quake.
    5. We have been in the middle of a drought curve for many years. Water is often rationed and fines imposed for overages. BUT.....Big Real-Estate keeps getting permits to build Hundreds and Hundreds of new homes, even though us who are already here have "no water".
    6. Finland and Iceland is one place of a few we are considering moving to.

It will be even more interesting when Nevada/Arizona cut off the Colorado river and leave the nation of California bone dry.

Yeah...autonomy always sounds good, but then you realize you are no longer part of (a big river) the highways, the international waters, the (other) airports are now on foreign soil, etc etc.
I could see making 2 or 3 countries out of the 50 states. But for just 1 to pull way would be more shocking than people think.
Cooperation, power in numbers, the greater good.....not something (succession) you would want to decide to do while in a state of anger. :)

One of my favourite explosions of the night, among many more hilarious hyperbolic outbursts this year.: https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet/status/796359749352701952?s=09

Genuine query from an external observer:
Was the chap (Podesta?) Just sending everyone home from Clinton HQ as odd as it seemed at the time?
I'd sat and watched through the night as curiosity, a certain political nerdism and new-found liking for Andrew Neil got the better of me, and it smacked of 'The candidate is having a breakdown and will not be speaking', or does it often go like that?

I hid Ben Dover's post since it was over the top and added nothing rational to this discussion.

Its happened before (either Kerry or Gore) where they sent home their supports because the result was not finalized. It seems bizarre that they can call California as soon as it closes, but New Hampshire (a fraction of the size-population and closing 3 hours before) runs into the early morning.

First each state has their own election rules and procedures, some more efficient than others and the closer the margin between parties the longer it takes to be sure they do not have a 'Dewey beats Truman' call.
