    L value

I always thought that the L value was the what you mutliplied the bore diameter (Calibre) by the get the barrel length, always seemed kind of complicated, but I never really questioned it. So a 380mm L5.4 would have a barrel length of 2052mm or just a fraction over 2 metres. Does this sound right or is it way off?

I'm baffled... Welcome to the forum Ricky, I don't know the answer to this question.

Simon, a bit late but you are right. The L value is reached by dividing barrel length by calibre, so the other way around: 5.4 x 380mm = barrel length of the Sturmtiger.

Are these real tanks? Because the Germans had plans for a 1500 ton tank with 2 155mm howitzers or something else wrong on so many levels.

Here's a little something to help illustrate calibers, gun length and diameter.

Whoops, just noticed the picture is inaccurate. The caliber is the internal diameter of the gun barrel, not the external.

Well, it was a bit of a cheat really, as it was only a prototype / testbed.

The Sentinel, a promising Australian design, built when the Japanese were getting rather close.

The Sentinel ACIII was developed with a 25pdr as the main gun, and the Sentinel ACIV, which was to be fitted with a 17pdr, initially had 2 x 25pdr in the turret, mainly to test whether the tank could stand up to the recoil.

Sentinels were never used as Shermans swamped the market.

If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll show you...

Might be something in the atmosphere there, I can't believe they would do such a thing on purpose.

    COOL :smok:

Imagine having one loaded with AP & the other with HE; you would be ready to deal with anything.
Question(s) How many in the crew? How many crew in the turret?
(the turret looks pretty small to me.)

USSR would be one of them...
Then probably Germany, and either France or Japan.

I'm not sure about Germany. They had less than 3,000 tanks at the start of WW2.

France and the USSR, I'm sure, but what's the third one? Britain? Poland?

    1. Connect the batteries
    2. Start external oilpump
    3. Open throttle a bit
    4. Press 'start'-button
    5. Conquer the world!
