    Now to get pedantic... ;)

Both GB and Finland had bits of their territory occupied by their enemies at various points of the war.

Italy (mostly due to the switch in allegiance) was never fully occupied by either enemy.
Germany & Austria were also never fully occupied by either enemy until after WW2 ended - there was an incredibly thin bit which surrendered, rather than being occupied.

Really, not counting colonies, the only countries that survived without some form of war-time occupation were Canada, Australia & Japan (not counting countries like Brazil, who declared war in 1943 or after). The US had the Adulusian Islands (spelling) pinched, so don't count.

Actually some japanese islands were occupied, for example Okinawa which was part of japan's national territory.

And Brazil entered war in 1942.... :D

    Ah - another pedant! :D

So it is just Canada & Australia then?
(of the major players, who were involved in the war before 1942...)

If you don't count colonial countries, only GB areas that were occupied were some Canal Islands, right?

Yes. But technically they count as 'Great Britain' / The 'British Isles'.

It's interesting that in WW2 it was only Britain, Finland and Russia(altough not exclusively european) were the only european countries not to be occupied, while in WW1 it was just the contrary.

In WW1, I think the only countries that were totally occupied were Serbia, Romania and Luxembourg.

Belgium was not totally occupied, the city of Ypres as well as some villages remained in belgian hand all over the war.

    If you hadn't, I would have. ;)

Actually Ypres is merely the largest city in quite an area of Belgium that remained in Allied hands throughout the war, defended by Belgian and British troops.

Before the next question comes up I feel duty bound (as a pedant) to point out that no parts of the UK were ever occupied in WWII. Only foreign posessions and Crown dependencies, channel islands being the latter.
Weren't some Canadian islands occupied by Vichy Navy?
