The new French Premier was an Independent in politics and thus had no strong party ties. He was a member of the Chamber for over twenty years, and first came into prominence as Finance Minister in M. Tardieu's Cabinet in 1932. He held the same office in M. Daladier's Cabinet, November 1938 and succeeded him as Premier on March 21st 1940. Paul Reynaud was born in 1878.
