    bloody charlamagne ? in the west he is portrayed as a wise and just ruler ..of course ,mostly the italians of ww2 are portrayed as hapless bumbling clowns ,accidently sucked into the axis sphere by ill fortune and bad leaders /.... imo ,we of western european decsent do owe a debt of graditude to the hardy balkan mountaineers who stemmed the ottoman tide so long ago...tying up several german divisions in war 2 was also very good of you...

    Well, wise. Or rather, pragmatic. Don't want your newly-conquered people rebelling? Ship them off to another part of your empire, to break the 'this is my land, you shall not rule it' emotion.
