Dietrich von Saucken (16 May, 1892 – 27 September, 1980) was a German general in the Wehrmacht Heer during World War II.

A cavalry officer who regularly wore both a sword and a monocle, Saucken personified the aristocratic Prussian conservatives who despised the braune Bande (brown mob) of Nazis. When he was ordered to take command of the 2nd Army on March 12, 1945, he was told by Hitler that he must take his orders from Albert Forster, the Gauleiter (Nazi governor) of Danzig. Saucken replied "I have no intention of placing myself under the orders of a Gauleiter". In doing this he had bluntly contradicted Hitler and not addressed him as Mein Führer. To the surprise of everyone who was present, Hitler capitulated and replied "All right Saucken, keep the command to yourself".

Recently I have known about the unusual fact of collaboration in Russia during WWII.
It is unusual in that, both Russian and Germans have shown themselves outside the box. I am talking about the «Lokot Republic», which was proclaimed in November 1941 on the territory of Bryansk region, occupied by the Germans.
Geographical size of the «Lokot Republic» was larger than Belgium.
Its population was of around 600,000 people. According to the agreement of local residents with General Guderian and Field Marshal von Kluge, German troops were absent on the territory of the Republic. All control was exercised by the local parliament. In the Republic operated its own laws, currency. There were worked schools, hospitals, theater, newspaper.
In addition, there was his own small army. The collective farms were closed. Private ownership and individual farming encourage.
The Germans did not interfere in the life of the Republic in exchange for a commitment to the safe passage of goods through their territory. In addition, Republic has been involved in supplying the German troop’s nutrition.
On the territory of the Republic acting local judiciary. Historians describe the case where a court decision had been executed two German soldiers :eek:on charges of robbery.
The existence of the republic did not suit the guerrillas. Therefore, in the territory of Bryansk region from 1941 to 1943 was a real civil war.
During the retreat of the Germans, part of the population went along with them.
Resistance to Soviet rule lasted in these places until 1951.

Curt von Gottberg (February 11, 1896 - 31 May 1945) was a Nazi official and military commander.

Beginning in October 1942, within a few years he had personally combined the highest civil and military powers in occupied Belarus: from March 1943 as representative of the HSSPF for central Russia, and from October 1943 as the acting Commissioner-General of the occupied Belorussian SSR .Only a few days before the collapse of the German Army Group Centre, in early July 1944, he was promoted to HSSPF of Belarus and central Russia. He committed suicide on 31 May 1945 while in British captivity in Flensburg.

Gottberg developed a new 'strategy' in the fight against partisans on the occupied territory of the Soviet Union, mounting aggressive operations against suspected 'partisan bases' .Whole regions were classified as "gangster territory" .

As a result, Kampfgruppe von Gottberg, along with the Dirlewanger and Kaminski Brigades, under the coordination of Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski, were responsible for the organised mass murder of countless civilians in Belarus. Within a short time Gottberg had received the highest military awards.
