    Tactical aviation played a vitally important role in the Second World War, on all fronts. Here we can discuss how each air force, and even some of the navies, carried out tactical air warfare, along with aircraft, people, doctrines, and any and all other details that we may come up with. The sky's the limit! :D

    I always felt I lacked a lot of knowledge about how the Soviets used their air forces. I know most of the planes, but nothing of their actions, formations, typical duties, roles, cooperation with land units...

    Your last sums up the Red Air Force's primary mission: ground support. Like the German Luftwaffe, the Soviet Air Force was tasked to support of their ground forces, only on a scale the Germans didn't have a prayer of matching.
