    Any particular reason for 1445?

    Treblinka Clock

Re 14.45, no reason most of the reports said that time, maybe that was when most trains arrived?
I hope every one understood the 'rink table' anagram, and the 'blink and you'll miss it clue'.
It is worth looking at the Treblikka stories on Google.

    Clever fellow Merlin!
Seeing the "blink" jogged my memory of the hand painted clock at Treblinka.

    Okay, here goes:

How many medium tanks did the 15 US armored divisions lose in the North West Euorpean campaign (June 6, 1944 - May 8, 1945)?

    Quiz

Do you mean 'Lost' as in "S*** it's a Tiger", or as in "Entschuldigung Sie Bitte, is this the road to Berchesgarden?"

    Re: Quiz

Hmm, I hadn't thought it would be interpreted like this, although I guess more than a few fell into either category.

Well actually I meant lost as in destroyed or no longer fit for combat. If I've added things up correctly, I do believe that have the (or at least an) answer!

I tihnk that's close enough. I came up with 2,557.
Can you give me your source and would you happen to have the corresponding numbers for the British?

I just made a guess based on what seemed plausible...

    Lost tanks

Well I made it 2,556 but I didn't include the one still trundling around 'Luneburg Heide' trying to find the exit!
(Did the Yanks have a Goon Show?)

No Ricky no joke. I added up the numbers from Steven Zaloga's "U.S. Armored Divisions: The European Theater of Operations, 1944 -45" and came up with 2,557 medium tanks lost.
Oh, by the way the ETO US Armored Divisions lost 787 light tanks as well.

Damn Merlin, now I have to go back and check which one I entered incorrectly in the spreadsheet! My now retired boss used to hate such "precision" in things that can't possibly be that precise. He always referred to it as being "precisly wrong". He probably would have insisted that I round it up (since he is a Brit) to 2,600.

    Okay Ricky, your question.

Sorry guys, I had a longer-than-expected weekend as my father-in-law had a (thankfully quite mild) heart attack. He is recovering well now.

Next person to post a question can have the quiz.

This sounds like something Gollum would have asked Bilbo!
