Just found another. The movie is "The Last Drop" (2006) and stars Billy Zane as a Canadian glider pilot who lands with a mixed British commando team during operation Market Garden. While I have never been a fan of Zane's I am very impressed at the effort he put in to getting the accent right. It's a subtle thing for an American to do, but he nails it. Thanks mr. Zane.
633 Squadron is dedicated to the airmen of the RAF and Commonwealth who flew the Mosquito stars Cliff Robertson with the badge of an Eagle Squadron Pilot. At some point thje character will have been in the RCAF Full length film here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmzrz7zZyUo As has already been posted, Christopher Plummer led his squadron in the Battle of Britain as an RCAF Officer. The Longest Day must have some Canadians - but generally ignores the Canadian beaches. Guy Gibson's Navigaotor was a Canadian. I donlt know if there are any Canada flashes in the shots of the aircrew. Star Trek features a D Day veteran form Juno Beach. Srotties missing finger is somewhere on the Gun Position NE of St Croix.
Just saw a series called "Parade's End" written by Tom Stoppard and starring Bennedict Cumberbatch. Set in world war one. A whole sequence involves the kitting up and preparation of Canadian troops to send them up the line to the front in Flanders. There's one pretty awful accent by a British actor playing a Canadian NCO.
A dramatic film was made from a novel based on the Harold Pringle case. http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/othermedia/film/firingsquad.htm
This past wednesday (feb 19) the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation premièred a new series called "X Company" about five young recruits for Camp X in Ontario who are trained and then sent out to occupied France as part as the SOE. Did anyone watch it? If so, how was it?
Canadian TV is finally entering the 19th century. CRTC is dropping "Canadian content" rules. Woo Hoo. Hopefully it will apply to Canadian music as well. Die: nickleback, avril lavigne, beiber, etc. Love a lot of CBC Radio, but they need a trim as well. Too heavy on management side. Keep too many unfunny/interesting people...They messed up bad regarding jian ghomeshi. ..It is apparent what works and what doesn't. Now hopefully we can employ only the best talent. Also, the gov required cable to offer a skinny package, compared to the crap package they offer now. A little too late, as everyone seems to be watching stuff online more than cable. ..Cable shot themselves in the foot by offering expensive lousy packages. Now it is time to watch cable crumble...They still have monopoly on my internet, and think they will play hardball with it.
i Have a vague memory of that...I just remembered my all time fav canadian kids tv show...The Beachcombers! With Nick and Jesse...and their nemisis Relic! The dodgiest speedboat you ever saw...
Haha. Yep. When you only have 3 channels. Actually visited Molly's Reach. Picked up a bunch of sea stars/ dollars/shells. Put them into storage in our trailer. Ma freaked out about the stank a couple days later...Had to cough up the garder snake in my pocket too. Yeah Canada had some great stuff. Hilarious House Of Frightenstein was another show that molded me for better or worse...Damn, Vincent Price. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsaFDZfz8Lc Wolfman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoIN0XlALDA
New guy here with a question. I collect WWII photography and recently came across a photo titled ' WWII soldiers coming home 1945 '. Its quite a good snapshot of Canadian soldiers with their insignia clearly seen. I would like to properly identify which unit these men were members of. Is there a specific Canadian forum or section where I might post the photo for identification? Thanks BHB
G'day BHB...i would just start your own thread introducing yourself and post the picture, we have a number of great "badge spotters" here...someone might have a better idea, but thats what i would do.
Dammit I have missed the first three episodes of that tv show. X Company. Has anyone seen it? If so is it good?
